Hope its not a joke, white van drivers are terrible, i am fed up with travelling down the motorway with a white thing attached to my arse!  I do think they should have lessons as its quite obvious they need them!

Am listening to some muppet on Jeremy Vine (for once its not him) about it.  He is trying to say white van men are generally good drivers, complaining about cars blocking roads, parking dodgy etc......... i have seen white van drivers doing this more!

Mr Darling said: "I think I've been driven mad on a number of occasions."

I'll own up to this as the company I work for (Courage) have on serveral occasions blocked him getting to the House of Commons from his office, when we've been delivering Beer the the Pub under his offices.

The government is to spend £1.3m on providing driving lessons for some of the UK's 200,000 van drivers, to make them more considerate behind the wheel.

Or roughly translated, TAXPAYERS are to spend £1.3m on giving them free courses....

IF we are to label Van drivers as bad drivers, why don't we just create a new licence, we have extra tests for HGV's etc, why not vans? Then the extra training could be funded by the businesses that run the vans rather than us innocent parties.

I've been out with the traffic police  :(bigsmile):  and it's amazing how bad the driving is. White vans are pretty awful but the worst bit I saw was an artic who decided to pull out in front of us whilst the lights and sirens were on    I think the driver was lucky we were already on our way to something (no it wasn't a cup of tea and a bacon sandwich  ) or his wallet would have been a bit lighter.

It's not just 'white van men' that drive like that.
I also see a lot of company car drivers on the 'phone and doing all the things that the vans do

You've got to smile.

With the grief that we get for driving a 4x4 and we are lumping other drivers together because of the vehicle they drive?

However the world has gone mad when we are expected to pay for courses for drivers that drive for a living!

ANY bad driver should be given a ticket to have to pay for a compulsory course. The problem is down to lack of enforcement of the law of the road.

"White van man poses less risk to pedestrians than even cyclists and is one of the very safest road user groups."

If thats the case why would they need lessons on how to drive?

Two points:

1. do i class as white van man? (pickup = commercial vehicle, its white!)
2. the "hat wearing group" has been unmentioned so far... baseball caps, flat caps, turbans, large wolley hats, and helmets are commonly found on the offending drivers!
the only exclusion to this group been silly hats, as these tend to be worn by the offroading comunity.... LMAO!

I reckon the government would be better off spending our money putting more coppers arses in cars and catching bad drivers.  Three counts of "drivind without care and consideration" gets your licence revoked.  This could include inconsiderate parking, tailgateing et al.

I drive around 50,000 miles a year and regardless of what the vehicle is (except Nissan Micra's) there are good and bad drivers in all of 'em.

Personally, my pet hate is drivers who leave their fog lights on.  If that isn't D.W.D.C.&C, what is?

The problem in this country is the majority of people are taught how to drive to get through their test. NOT taught to a standard of driving, i think the driving schools and examiners are to blame.

as for getting more coppers onto the roads comment, blame the government for that one for handing responsibility over to the highway s agency patrols.  :x

if you guys could see some of the end results to peoples bad driving like i have too... well i leave it to your imagination

i ahve just come back from devon and cornwall and i saw more police traffic cars around the a30 about 7 in all than on the journey down from burton which includes a444,a42,m42,m5 which the total was one and that was parked in the services. And as i can remenber as a child when you went down a motorway every 10th car was a police one. and thats the problem lack of police on the road.

I passed my car test in 1990 passed my advanced commercial driving test in 1992 the company paid for it,

I returned to the depot, and threw the keys at them 2 yrs ago and left work, its not the driving its the pressure employers put you under, i was doing 100+ drops a day, bring anything back you get fined and loose your bonus,
Constant mobile calls "where are you? how long ? ""
Never drove again for a delivery/courier company
And i havent been to london or been down the m1 in two years its brill !!!
