Title: How much should I pay??

Swivles, Hubs, calipers, CV etc etc. Complete hubs with brake flexi off a 300tdi 90.

Even the shafts are new!! Just bolt on

So, what are they worth? Remeber all brand new and all genuine LR parts

I have been offered nearly new (note not new) td5 front axles for Ã‚Â£250 if that helps.

Personally bought low mileage late disco 1 ones instead for under half that!

Dead chuffed, I'll post a pic in a few days when Ive stopped salivating..... :P :P :P

Post by: Henry Webster on January 31, 2006, 11:06:34: That's a fantastic deal - nothing beats new parts. A lot of the longevity/reliability problems that people have are to do with using old/cheap bits.

What cvs etc do you run in the hybrid?

I have been running RR classic ones but broke a few :( then went on to disco 300tdi but they have only been on a few months so tough to say if they are better

Until the weekend, I didn't know, I've never had the front hubs apart (!)but guessed late 300s and I was right.

I am building a new axle with the same (bent the last one) - so that I have a full serviced spare set of corners.

Bought a 300tdi axle a few months ago which was going on the hybrid, Im putting the new ones on now so I'll rebuild the old ones and keep a spare set. So much easier in comps just to change the whole hub rather than messing with CV joints etc....

I know some would disagree but it works for me and at least you dont risk getting mud and dust into the hub

Who would disagree? Track rods off, caliper off, stub axle bolts off, new corner on, caliper on, track rods on away you go! :lol:

Much quicker and easier than mucking about with hubs/cvs and shafts.

Much heavier too !! I tend to carry a couple of CV's just in case... can't imagine having the space to carry 2 complete hubs around.

On a lot of the events I've done, you don't get the chance to have a 'parc ferme' in which to keep those big, heavy bits... you have to work in the field / bog / forest / puddle that you happened to be in at the time !

yip even doing comps & having a parc fereme/carpark i still only carry the guts of the axles

Agreed, I guess that is one of the main differences between the various branches of our sport.

Sure they are heavy, and that's why I have been taking a service vehicle to events with me. We have a van now for the purpose, but even then it is pretty easy to overload that with the kit I now carry. Its not necessary, but I'm glad of it when things go wrong.

I do mainly Hillrallies where if you have a problem as big as a CV failure in stage and you can't get out in 2wd, there just isn't time to rebuild the axle (let alone any desire to carry any spares in the competing vehicle!).

In the service areas, on average you have 30-45 minute to fix any problems so again the best way is to swap whole units for speed.
