Title: Please stay safe whilst D.I.Y.
Post by: Andy the Landy on January 29, 2006, 20:10:43
Please Please Please stay safe whilst working on your Landy. Make sure if 2 of you are working on it a differant times that each one knows what the other one has done.
I had a battery that was on charge explode in my face this afternoon and its not very pleasant.
I didnt realise it was still on charge and the person that put it on charge forgot to take the caps off.
Leaning into engine bay taking a part off and KaBoom - up it went.
So as the title of the thread says - PLEASE STAY SAFE

I'll back that up, as I've seen the results of this, & various angle-grinder accidents.
Not nice.

I hope that other than a nasty fright & some light splashes at you're okay Andy???

Another one to watch out for is catching a wedding ring on (for example) a roofrack as you jump off.
Instant 'Degloving' of the ring finger
Doesn't look pretty

OK now thanks :D  could see again after about 40mins - luckily got cold water chucked over me straight away. Still a bit itchy on arms and face.
I was very lucky - hope others dont make same mistake. Its put me of DIY for a while.

Blimey .... never had that happen, never want it to either.  Glad your O.K.

Many years ago I supplied and erected a shed for a guy who's previous one was destroyed by a tree.  Two days later he ordered a replacement because a car battery that he was charging had exploded inside the new shed, again destroying it.

When them things go they must have some force behind them, sounds like you were fortunate.

I'll wager your m8 learned a few new words and phrases!

How true Neal! How very true. Familiarity breeds etc. Hope you have a full recovery Andy. Surprising how many people, don't know the importance of releasing the battery tops when charging. Or think of where the sparks are going to go when grinding or gas cutting.
