Title: Not just Land Rovers
Post by: karloss on April 29, 2004, 16:35:21
T'would appear it's not just Land Rover products that break without provacation. Last week while in Penrith for work, the car (company Vectra) broke down. Well, when I say broke down, a light came on on the dash with a picture of a spanner (which I ignored, I am after all a Landy driver). Then the engine died off drastically. The Vectra has a "limp home mode" which is just that and can't really be ignored. Cut a long story short. It was recovered by the AA and towed into Wakefield to the Vauxhall dealers. This was last Monday. They rang me yesterday, a week and two days later to say it was fixed. 7.30 this morning, it conks out again. Que AA truck etc. The service manager at the (unnamed) Vauxhall dealership now sports a bleeding ear. What a flippin' performance. The Landy, abused, bashed, battered & older than most countries has never (YET) refused to get me home. Although it's required nursing a time or two. :)  Modern technology, you can keep it thanx. :(  :(

Yeeh I'll second that Karloss. My Suzie has limped a couple of times already (mainly carb trouble after trying to swim with her, now cured :) ) but when a new one fails, it fails with very little anyone except (or even in your case) the correct bits to 'talk' to it.........

It was actually nice to open the bonnet of the Suzie and see things I could play with :D

Karloss, it wouldn't happen to be the dealer just to the south side of our beautiful little bridge with the Chantry Chapel on it, would it? :)

Now obviously it wouldn't be gentlemanly to say. But, yes that's the set of useless b*****ds. Just bent the service managers ear again today says the car won't be back until tuesday evening at the earliest. Anyone know a journalist?

I've lost all faith (if there ever was any) since my last garage service. It was done at a mate's garage and I'd told him to just note any brake work. The lad doing it replaced the front pads and they also added some additive that you had to opt out of if you didn't want it.
I blew and the price got knocked back to what it should have been.
I was only geting it done because of the warranty.
Now I do it all myself and know it gets done and as others can testify it gets done properly or not at all.
