Title: North York Moors
Post by: Tailendcharley on January 30, 2006, 15:00:45
:D  :D Went for a drive the other day in the Suzi...took my better half along because she agreed to fill it up...drove into God's Country through the Yorkshire Moors when we were stopped by the local plod at the scene of a bad accident...plod explained that they were filming an episode of Heart Beat and if I did'nt want to wait I could drive along a path across the Moors which would bring me out near to the old Roman road...I took him up on his kind offer...never had so much fun in all my life...rounded the day off nicely with some fish and chips at Pickering...an absolutely perfect day.... :D  :D  :D  :D

I'm guessing that was somewhere near Goathland?

:)  :) It was a few miles from Goathland...we went along some gentle paths and then through a forest along the tracks...the Forestry people had kindly left the gates open...I really must borrow an O.S. map from somebody...being a Yorkshireman born n bred stops me from buying my own.. :)  :)

That'll be up on Wheeldale Moor then, the road from Pickering over to Egton Bridge via that route is marvellous :D  :D  :D , wonderful in summer for picnicing by the fords, & desolate in winter

'Wades Causeway' (as it is otherwise known) cuts in here (http://uk.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=480000.948427036&Y=498000.128838651&width=500&height=300&gride=&gridn=&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&local=&localinfosel=&kw=&inmap=&table=&ovtype=&keepicon=&zm=0&scale=25000&down.x=191&down.y=2)
I remember going up there on the 'top road' (& it's not too many years ago) when sections were still gravel & great with rear wheel drive :D

I think BTM is correct with this one, we live in Pickering and if we're going to Whitby we always go that way.
(If you've watched Heartbeat, the ford used on the opening credits is on this road)

Yes, a great road, you just need a 'gate-opener', especially when it's raining/snowing
