Anybody got any experience of them. I've had one sat around for ages, but it couldn't pull the skin of a rice pudding. I thought it was the air line, which was small bore, and far to long. I've just replaced it with 3m of 1/2in ID Hose. Still now guts to it.
The Gun is rated at 6 Bar, and the Compressor is 8 Bar.
-
I believe that its all to do with the CFM rating (cubic feet per minute ?) - which is a rating of the compressors ability to produce a sustained pressure for an amount of time. I think tools like air impact wrenches and stuff need a high CFM value, not just a high pressure (Bar) rating.

The opne we use at the barn is off a 6 bar compressor and that will undo ANYTHING!
In fact its so good it can (and has    ) sheared off the head
Think its your air gun thats at fault. We bought one for about £30, sorry cant remember where
-
The Air Gun is 4 CFM, and we thing the Compressor is 6CFM, so I think it should be alright for that. The air gun isn't that old, (but out of warrant), just that I never really used it much, but could have done with a couple of times recently.
I can more or less hold then end of it still, I don't think it's even getting 40 Nm!!! And it should be well over 300 from the spec sheet.
-
have you tried oiling the gun, find with mine it makes a difereance sometimes

Oh  , think it's probably FUBAR'd then......

If its a revesable direction check its engaging properly. The last I used had to fiddle with it to get it to engage then all power was let loose.
-
Just put it all away, cos it's getting dark and cold out (Yeah I know I'm a wimp)
I've dowsed it in oil today, and run it for about 5 minutes, to make sure the oil worked it's way into everything, made no difference.
Had a fiddle with the reverse thing, no difference at all.
-
think i might no what it is
can you post a pic pleas drum, inside the gun there is a barrel with say 6 plastic blades coming out like a big fan & on mine it can stick after w hile & the blades stay stuck in allowing the air to not spin it as hard
-
Yeah what do you want a piccy of?? The Gun, or the Insides??
-
I've taken it apart :D I found the barrel you're on about, and the blades are only in lose, but the edges of them are bone dry, everything else is oiled.

in that case dont need to post a pic
-
So you'd expect them to be oily right??
I'll clean them up, and give it a drop of oil on each one, and work them in and out a few times. Then reassemble and try it again.
-
Well I put it back together and tried it, and no difference, but it it using air at one hell of a rate, which would tie in with the paddles sticking in the barrell.
I'll have another play with it tomorrow.

I use them at work. I have a Snap-On 1/2" drive, and i can remove truck wheelnuts at 450LbFt. Alot depends on the supply. As has been said before, you need a higher CFM to run a windy gun, due to the large capacity of air they use. Use the largest bore hose you can too. The small compressors from Screwfix and such like, I.E. 1.5hp ones are ok, but only for short bursts. You really would notice the difference with a 2hp or above. Also, the larger the storage tank the better.
You should oil all air tools Daily, and dont use thick oil, as it will cause the gun to Hydraulic lock. Use proper air tool oil, or Hydraulic oil ive found is good. Also oil them lightly when you have finnished using before storing. :)
Hope this helps.

ive got a sealey 1/2" gun which is ment to be 510 Lbft max,i use a 15w40/5w30 mix to oil it lightly & every 6 months strip the gun down n empty the chamber of any excess oil & away i go again

Did it come from "machine mart" cos I have one that sounds like it's just the same as yours
Compresser I use is DIY quality, not a big industrial monster, it's specs are
7cfm air displacement
50 litre air receiver
1.5hp, 230v
8bar (115psi) maximum working pressure
Does that sound OK guys or is it a compressor problem

Like i said. The smaller compressors like you mention may struggle, due to the guns swallowing loads of air. But they should be ok in shorter bursts. I used my 9cfm snap on one on a 1.5 hp 25ltr wolf from screwfix, and undone the wheelnuts on my 110 ok. Just took a while to build the air back up. :D

Is there a regulator in line?
Can you up the pressure?
Although as previously mentioned they also need the CFM as well as PSI.
I'm old school.
Try spinning the socket in reverse by hand just before you pull the trigger I've had DAs that wouldn't start without knocking the pad round in reverse.
-
Check to see if any air is blowing out around the trigger
mechanism there maybe a o ring or something gone in there, alternatively if it's a cheap £20 gun bin it as ive seen them just fall to bits inside. You should get a CP one at a car boot sale for about a tenner.

That sounds very similar on both counts, similar compressor, and a Machine Mart wrench. What I need is someone with a decent compressor, Then I reckon if it works it's the compressor not having enough guts, if it doesn't it's the gun.
The Gun is rated at 4CFM, the Compressor 7CFM (I've been out and checked) but yet the gun can empty the tank in a couple of minutes.

Try some thing like this
1/2" Composite Impact Wrench
Item Number: AW4300
Features and Benefits
600 ft. lbs. torque
Composite housing
Weighs 4.25 lbs
Easy change forward/reverse lever
High/low power regulator
(http://mactools.com/ProductImages/aw4300_p.jpg)
i got the old version of it cost about £180 undo's every thing that works 1 inch gun does not touch like Fiat Ducato Motorhome's front Hubs
-
No point buying one until i know what's not working. If the compressor ain't upto it fair enough. If it's the gun, fair enough but I don't particularly want to buy one to find it's the other. And if it's the gun I'll be slightly miffed cos it's never worked right :(
