Welcome to the club :D
Read here about someone who has done a 2" body lift - http://forums.mud-club.com/viewtopic.php?t=16528
It doesn't sound like a 5 minute job!
-
Welcome
-
what size tyres are they then  they look huge in the pic :D
-
A whole Rubber tree forest got Slashed and Burned just to make them 4... I LOVE THEM
-
youve been photo shopping...note the rear is samller than the front by loads, Nice work though!
You can fit 33 to a 2 inch suspension lift as long as you cut the arches back and fit some devon4x4 ones.
I cant see the point of body lifts as they dont do anything but make your C of G higher...easier to roll i suppose??

I suppose it allows larger tyres so you can raise the height of the diff

billy no foto chopping sie the foto"s
tires are 35/10,5 /16''

see no fotochopping

if they are that size it must seriously impair your steering lock and articulation?
-
they look like pro-comp's to me, must be 35's +
-
Robbie,So why lift the body to fit larger tyres when you can increase the height of the suspension...which is a benefit as it makes it work better?btw i have 35's on
They havent got the clearance to allow any upward movement which is a poor way of using you suspension. Fitting big tyres is easy - getting it to work without fouling everything and bettering the original set up isnt.Good luck, can we have a few post offroading piccies?
-
A body lift is a serious alternative to a suspension lift, it won't raise the C of G anything like as badly as a suspension lift and it doen't entail all the problems that suspension llifts do ie castor angle/ cardan prop etc.
that said it doesn't help with breakover angle :?
For a serious lift of 4+inches, some body lift and some suspension lift seems to be the way to go for many people.
-
Yes if thats is what you NEED
but you dont, mine has 35's on with a 2 inch lift and some thought. Those arches havent been removed anywhere near as much as required. RRB if you lift by the same ammount with suspension or body lift the cog is exactly the same.....the way forward with suspension is to increase downward travel whilst maintaining the correct ammount of upward movement.
Kobus , what have you done with the edges? Myabe if you had put 2 same size tyres on the car it might not have looked so dodgy - you need to remove more arch and get some flares on it for Devon 4x4. Otherwize when the tyre moves up it will remove the bodywork itself, you should also look at doing a camel cut to the rear quarter. As the axle moves upwards it also moves back and will dmaage both tyre and bodywork.
I stick with my original statement body lift is a poor way of creating space.

Ive never understood the need for a body lift unless you are goung huuuuge with tyres.
It only serves 1 purpose, and makes a [!Expletive Deleted!] of brake pipes and steering shafts.
A suspension lift will gain the height, and will hopefully (with correct shocks etc) give a healthy increase in articulation.
On a disco why bother. just get the the wheelarch extension kit, trim the arches right back to make room, and get a 2" lift kit on the suspension.
No dramatic castor changes, no excess height, and you can stuff a 35" in the new arches.
Body lifts are for show and shine trucks.

Show and shine :(biglaugh): :(bloodshot): I wouldn't say that...Mine aint no show and shine :(biglaugh): I still cant see what 35's fit under a 2" suspension lift without major cutting of the arches.simex 35's wouldnt.. Also a 2" body lift you have the extra height from the wheels which then lift the axel ..plus the increase in articulation as long a you have cut the arches :(biglaugh):
-
one of the reasons people fit bodylifts are to keep the all the heavy item ie ( chassis, engine, gearbox) down low so they are actually more stale than a suspension lift and they don't raise your centre of gravity as much as a suspension lift
-
Kinda my point from the last 2 posts(I was a bit cheeky with the show and shine  )
Its better to trim bodywork than to lift, lift, lift, and why do a body lift when a suspension lift serves a dual purpose and gets you more travel in the bargain.
If you consider going outwards an inch for every inch gained upwards, theres 4 inches needed width ways for a 2 inch body and 2 inch susp lift.
IMHO body lifts are best left alone, theres better ways to do it.
-
i used to drive a suzuki sj with a 2 inch body lift and a 2 inch suspension and seemed much better and safer off road than a mates suzuki with with a 4" suspension lift. remember that your vehicle was never designed to have a large suspenion lift so fitting a big lift only damages your steering a drive chain more due to the altered angles.
in an ideal world it is better to trim the arches but its not always that easy also it it a tried and tested mod especially within the suzuki comunity
-
The trimming of the body on the disco is soooooo easy, the wheelarch kits are readily available, the wing liners virtually fall out, and the wings can be trimmed back a long way(the 5 door is a bit harder I agree)
Why make the car taller when you can stuff 35" BFGs in without a hitch.
The photo below is a 35" tyre, with 3 link kit stuffed into the arch, with what Ive described. Why go any taller?
Ps, the rock is nearly 4 feet tall

just to throw some super unleaded on the bonfire but ive got picces of a disco on 36's with just a 2 inch lift, its curently being redone to get 40's on,
-
Mike,my point exactly. Fingers yours looks very tall but simexes arent much bigger than Bfg's less than an inch for the smae size....... thats only a small rock after all.
