Just booked the 110 in for quite abit of warranty work at the local dealer. Nothing too major, just niggly little things that build up.
However I've been told that if I want a courtsey car I have to insure it myself, never had that before??? I normally just show my liscence, and sign to say I'm the only person to drive it.

we used to have courtsey cars when we took are trucks in for service but they had to stop it as the insurance went through the roof for any driver not employed by the firm. or thats what the garage told us

seems to be the norm that you have to insure a courtesy car yourself, ring your insurer with the cars details and they should be able to give you temp cover for it, for a charge of course. ( Normally admin anything up to £25 ish)

If its warrenty work, I think they should let you have the car for nothing as its not normal servicing, the warrenty should cover it.

we have had courtesy vehicles in the past and have never had to insure them, last one was in january when my van was serviced

Not too sure about situation with the 'WorksVan' (Mondeo) as I normally follw her & bring her home)
DM Keiths (Skoda-Leeds/Wakefield) charge a CDW of £6.00/day, otherwise you can take it on your own insurance & hope they payout if neccesary.
Not been in that situation with 90/Discovery or 'Heritage'.
However with my first 110, I had varying courtesy cars; 90CSW/110CSW/Discovery & P38 - some on dealers insurance, some on mine

I had exactly the same myself recently when i was told i must put the courtesy car on my own insurance. luckily i was not charged for this service ! Just another reason i am on my third year of insurance with TESCO.

Oh well, it appears the dealera aren't taking the mick as much as I thought. But as far as I'm concerned it's another nail in the main dealer coffin.

we(main Toyota dealer) have either a 1000 excess, a 5 pound cdw, or insure it yourself option.
Its fair, its a perk, not a sure thing, Itd cost 30 quid to hire a car for the day, probably a fiver and hours wasted using the buses, It seems a good deal to me.
Warranty doesnt cover the cost of a replacement vehicle(check your warranty T&C's), you dont get a free courtesy telly if yours packs in and needs repair do you?
The abuse the courtesy cars get is phenomenal, a small fee is only fair I recon.

To be honest if I'd been offered the deal on a 1000 or 5CDW, I wouldn't have thought anything of it. Just when ever I've taken a car into a main dealer before, and requested a courtesy car, they booked me a slot when a car is available, and that's been the only difference. Not had to mess about with my own insurance before.
Even on an 18month old vehicle I now do all my own servicing etc. The only reason I don't do warranty work, is they won't let me have the parts unfitted. If they did for most of it, I'd just do it, and just get the parts from them. In fairness though I understand why they won't let me do that.

The main dealer I used, suddenly put a limit of 25 miles per day on their loan cars - not much use to me when the garage is 22 miles from home :shock: .
When I got a couple of things sorted just before the warranty expired, I waited in the showroom with mans best friend - having walked the mutt (English Springer) in a particularly wet/muddy field beforehand......never got such good and speedy service. At one point, I was looking over a D3 and got the sales guy to hold the dogs lead whilst I sat in the drivers seat - they wouldn't let the dog check out the back seat though :twisted:

The last time I took the Fabia into the dealer, I got a godawful £-Cylinder (http://forums.mud-club.com/viewtopic.php?p=139607#139607) for the day.
I think I did less than 20miles including there & back.

Insurance can depend on what your car is in for, when my current Micra got crashed the courtesy car was on my insurance only because of the business use, it was an insurance reapair, when it got stuck in the dealers for a month and a half with a gearbox problem, it had to be on mine.
Hers'a a good one, when the Rangie went in for an "assesment" they said I might get a courtesy car, but it would be a Pug 2-oh-something. I said "my dogs won't like that" he said "you can't take your dogs in it"
Apparently if you get dog hairs in their car they charge you £65 for a full valet. Should have seen his face when I mentioned towing the Capri back with it :lol:
A lot of insurance courtesy cars belong to the approved repairer, not the insurance, it's one of the criterion for being the approved garage (above the ability to actualy repair the car I think).

Sale of goods act 1979 says:-
For up to six years after purchase (five years from discovery in Scotland) purchasers can demand damages (which a court would equate to the cost of a repair or replacement).
Damages such as loss of earnings/travel costs etc are uninsured by manufacturers or dealers warranty.
C/Cars on warranty arent a sure thing, same as for servicing. The only sure ones are when your car is in for Bodywork and your insurance guarantees a c/car. The problem then is that the c/car is only guaranteed if your car is taken to their approved repairer. Not always the best bodyshop in town...!!!...!!!...!!!!!. If you want it to go to your own trusted repair shop, they wave goodbye to your c/car.
Its always a lot easier to be nice/pleasant tho, theres more chance of a c/car or a lift home etc . As soon as someone qoutes 'sale of goods act' they tend to get the bare minimum of service.

Well the 110 went in on Monday, and while there I was offered to insure there vehicle for a few quid a day, which I think is fair, so I took that up rather than mess around with my Insurance.
Had my first chacne to have a look under the vehicle today.
Out of 4 Faults, I was told all were fixed, apart from I need a new windscreen which is on order.
Which leaves 3 Faults,
One door Lock sticking - Fixed.
Engine Leaking Oil - They've replaced some pipes, but there still looks to be a leak, I've given it a damn good clean, so I'll soon know if anymore oil appears, but I think it's still leaking.
Alarm not setting properly - A classic main dealer fix. They've disconnected the sensor that was causing trouble. Atleast I know which it is now!!!! Prats!! I shall be having words on Monday.

And surprise surprise in the time it took me to write that message, the oild has leaked all over the side of the engine again (I left it running)
Rolla, I know you work in a garage, and obviously knew sales of goods etc?? If they can't stop my engine leaking do you think I can have a new engine??? :D :lol:

Surley if it didn't have an oil leak "that" would contravene the "sale of goods" act :shock: :? :D

To be honest if it was an older vehicle I'd accept the leak, but what annoys me is that they are so inept at fixing it. :(
