What is the best way to improve the headlights on a 200tdi.
Just got back and realised just how naff they really are, stopped once just to make sure they were actually working.
thanks

replace the wiring with a switched feed straight off the battery (using a relay)
makes an unbelievable difference.
and don't just put uprated lamps in it without doing something with the wiring, you *will* melt the switch and have to replace the stalks...

Agreed, did this to mine and use 100w bulbs, makes a big difference

will get a couple of relays tomorrow, and try that, certainly can not be any owrse.
thanks again

you could go for some of these

they are availible from an online comapny but they are quite exspensive. £220.
the company i got them from wasnt that relaible either. there might be another company that do them. they are crystal head lights with led side llights and they are very bright

did look at those, but not e marked, and that put me of a little, especially at the price.
do look good though.....

I ended up replacing the headlights whe I did mine they were quite yellow, and the mountings were siezed so I couldn't adjust them readily
One thought would be if you intend to run spots though the main beams you may be better fitting relays suitable for the extra load, I ended up fitting 4 one for each circuit, ie 2 dips and 2 beams. Be warned though, I have had an ongoing problem with the dim dip circuit on mine. The relay chatters with the reduced voltage going through them.

to improve lights on my disco i fitted canadian white light bulbs with a blue side light..not fantastic but i dont realy have that much of a problem with lighting now  :D

no spots on at moment, looks like there was at some time but previous owner looks to have removed them.
Need to get headlights sorted, at moment, I would probably be better with a couple of candles :(
Did look at the 300 conversion alongside fitting relays, but not sure if this would give much improvement though,
-
Yes they would, but for an immediate fix the relay route would do it, and the upgrade on the lights could follow later, when the weather dont try to freeze your fingers off

oka,, now I am confused. :?
Just been to put a relay in from the fusebox input line to the headlights from the switch, and noticed that there appears to be a fitted relay already installed in the drivers kick panel.
Looks to have been factory fitted, as it is all wired into the loom, with correct mounts and relay.
But according to workshop manuals this was not an option of the vehicle, and it was wired direct from the switch via the fuse box to the headlights.
Any ideas :?:

buy a new pair of headlamps
mine got a bit mingign from mud so i bought a new pair
what a difference that made!
oh and wipac spots made a big difference too

I fitted the relays on the inside of the engine compartments on either side, then used the original (speaker wire :? ) feeds to the dip and the beam as switching wires from the system, and tapped new feeds though fuses to the relays, out to the headlight plugs, with new plugs and spades

Looking at some of the wiring under the dash and behind the kick panel, it looks like someone has just hacked away at it, and then taped it all together afterwards with duct tape.
Think I will manage for now, and look at rewiring it when it is a little warmer, want to make a few changes like lights on alarm and stuff anyway, so will be perfect excuse
