Title: What Size Wheels?
Post by: munkynpunky on February 10, 2006, 10:25:53
Hi Guys,

Just a quick thought, after i've sorted my seat, I’m looking to put a new set of wheels on my vitara. Now, I've seen some with 18, and 20's on but the people who own them have bought them like it, so my questions are:

If i have a standard vitara can i fit 18's on without them rubbing and without me needing to lift it?

What else will it affect if i fit the bigger wheels, do i need bigger brakes etc?

any help is appreciated, as I’ve never modded any car before :)

Thanks

Drew

oh, see lol, I don’t know anything about it, some guy i know, (like Burberry) drives a cavalier with 18's and he said they went on his easily and now the whole car handles better, goes faster ??( i  don’t see how but who knows lol)

I've been laning a couple of times, there are some nice muddy back roads leading to fields near me but apart from driving round those fields, I’ve never actually been "Off Road" in it yet, just wondered what would be better for me. I'm looking to fit Wide Boy Arches too... :)

15's are probably fine for the Vit, that way, you can have a nice decent sidewall which will take some of the knock when off road....

I know a guy who is seeling some fat-boy ones too for a good price ;)

31 x 10.5 x 15 is the American version of tyre sizing.
31 denotes 31" diameter of the tyre.  10.5 denotes 10.5" being the width of the tread and 15 denotes a 15" rim/wheel.

Metric version

195/80/15

195mm tread width
80 refers to the sidewall height 80% of the tread width 195mm = 156mm of total sidewall.
15 refers to the rim/wheel e 15"

I hope this helps :)
