Logged onto "Mud-Club members map" earlier. Switched off my pc, took the dog for a walk, just tried to log into tiscali homepage and my mail and it wont let me enter. A few weeks ago I had to format my hard drive to get rid of the same problem.
I now know that it is the "members map" FRAPPR.COM that is installing some sort of malicious software on my pc
The problem is "spybot" or "adaware" doesnt sort the problem, so it looks like another format is the only solution.
Is anyone else experiencing strange computer behaviour after logging into the members map?????

go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com and see what they say, it will do an up to date online scan of your pooter :D
-
No mine is ok and my anti virus dont bring anything up do you mean frogger map site. Try deleting your temp folder and your cookies folder. That may help
-
Tried trendmicro, also cleared cookies and temp folder and pc is still not right. Browser keeps freezing, pages aren't loading properly and when i attempt to type in web address and click GO..... the PAGE UNAVAILABLE comes up, it also comes up when i attempt to go to my home site.
I have up to date anti-virus and that does not locate the problem, ccleaner/spybot or adaware does not clear it.
The only sites i have been on are Mud-club/Lrtech/Slroc which i go onto everyday.
The only website other than the usual is FRAPPR.COM "members map"
I'm going to FORMAT C:
Will let you know the outcome tomorrow.
CHEERS GUYS.

If you are using windows xp try system restore.

Maybe your Firewall is locking you out.
-
Finally.... PC is formatted and everything is now reinstalled :D . Its back to its usual speed, pages load correctly and i can check my mail again.
I was using windows xp firewall, perhaps that let something through??? I now have a seperate firewall that is stopping all traffic both ways, it then asks me whether to allow it or not :D :D
BY THE WAY, when I connected to TRENDMICRO it asked me to install some sort of JAVA in order to scan my pc. I installed the JAVA, then trendmicro stopped working and I had repeated attacks from someone trying to install LSASS EXPLOIT & another EXPLOIT (cant remember which one), but they were trying every 3-5 or so seconds. Perhaps it was actually trendmicro??? but my antivirus kept blocking them.
RIGHT GUYS/GALS I SHALL NOW LOG INTO MEMBERS MAP AGAIN & SEE WHAT HAPPENS THIS TIME.

Tredn Micro is a bit on the funny side, have seen it cause problems before now. Take it off and give AVG (http://free.grisoft.com) a go.
Also get a copy of Spybot S&D installed and updated and run that. Re-installing a PC for that is a little extreme :)

If your on broadband buy a router with a built in firewall. For the sake of £40 with a constant connection and hardware firewall its worth it. Just to be over paranoid I also run avg free ("free" being the best bit!!) and zonealarm free. Never had any grief so far!
-
Cheers everyone, Yes I have used avg before, but never tried zone alarm. I will look into a router with built in firewall. The firewall I have installed at the moment has blocked (in 10 mins) 47 intrusions with 8 being high risk, no make that 48 " just had another one".
When I relied on the windows firewall, it never blocked one programme, so i thought everything was fine.
Anyway....fingers crossed, I wont have anymore problems. :D

sorry, this is all a bit late :(
Did it also affect firefox or just IE? there are usually about 4 places you can/need to uninstall/delete that cra... stuff from :(

There are also lots of security issues with internet explorer, altho Microsoft are getting better.
Try using mozilla Firefox, works just as well (if not better) but doesnt seem tohave all of the security holes in it.
Oh, and it is free

I have a standard comment in these situations, involving the words "Mac", "a" and "get", but I'll restrain myself as it tends to annoy certain people...
I now have a Windows XP laptop to take to Africa (didn't want to risk the precious Mac), and the more I use XP the more smug I get about the Mac...
-
Jason M, it just affected IE. Ive tried firefox before and maybe i'll take Robbie's advice and try it again. With regards to buying a MAC as suggested by Thermidorthelobster (tongue twister), I really cannot afford one yet as I intend to change employers, which also means upping sticks and relocating (££££'s). But will definately read up on MACs and look to getting one soon after I start new job. :D
