How many miles should I get out of a full tank of petrol with a 3.9 v8 auto, driving normally ?
-
phew, what a question, probably not many...
If it helps for a comparison, I get around 450-500 from my 2.5 300TDi sometimes almost 550 but I have toi drive carefully for that and not let the wife drive it ;)
-
Mine does about 200 miles, running around town, its not running prefect mind but I dont expect to inprove that much when its better.
V8i auto like yours.

 i've gotta slow down, i only get 400 to 430 if i'm lucky from mine
-
I only get about 350-400 if the wife drives it, she cant drive an auto properly and floors it everywhere!!!!
Most of my journeys include fairley long distance so that helps, maybe 50 miles is one of the shortest trips I would do, some as long as 200 in one go.
-
Which size tank is it?

89 litre in the V8.
-
My 2.0 Mpi gets about 350 per tank.
-
with the 35's my disco doesnt do economy, i get just over 200 from a full tank. And thats driven like a saint on road!!
-
I'm getting an average of 260 miles per tank, I was kinda hoping someone was going to tell me I should get alot more an a tune or something simple would sort it, I reckon a gas conversion would pay for itself in a year but I don't want to lose the off road ability or the boot space, has anyone got a kenlowe fan fitted an if so do you notice much differance, or has anyone got any other idea's other than let the bird drive :)
-
Replace the fuel tank with a gas tank, and fit a small petrol tank in the wing. I think thats the norm for retaining off-road ability.
-
:D dont you mean how many lamposts can you pass befor the next fuel stop.....myold disco v8 carb use to get tops 18mpg  thats why i went TDI...
-
~ 230 miles around town
~ 360 miles motorway
- Disco Series II - 95 litre tank...
-
guess I'll have to do the gas conversion sooner rather than later, I'll have to have a look into replacing the tank an putting a small tank in the wing, anyone suggest a good cheap place to get it done, either norfolk or middlesbrough area
-
When I first got Piglet and he was unmodified ( 3.9 V8 ) ~275 to a tank. Since uprating everything and making him heavy as hell ( 4.6 V8 ) - ~225.
Owl can pull somewhere between 350 and 450 on average ( 4.4 V8 ). The range computer has been known to show over 500....but that's driving at 56mph along the motorway....

 :!: :!: have a series II disco with standard tank.. i get around 28 mpg running around and 32 mpg on a motorway run.. 500+ to the tank... am i going tooooo sloooooowwww :!: :?
-
I used to get an average of 520-500 per (brimmed) tank in the Discovery (300Tdi manual)
-
3.9 Efi V8 Disco ES Auto ......... 12mpg = about 220/230 to a tank, but I'd be running on fumes by then. Easiest thing seems to be to fill up at every other petrol station

wouldnt do that,it reduces the range you have & the fuel tank in the wing is as vulnerable as you can make it,
stick a 100 litre tank in the back & keep the standard fuel tank underneath
-
About 5 mile to the bucket

With a V8???? - I do drive the Disco like it wants to be an Impreza - but I think my MPG is pretty standard....
Only gain about 0.5 mpg on motorways travelling at indicated 70 mph instead of 80-85 so not worth bothering slowing down
I like the bucket idea Dave - but it smacks somewhat of desperation
-
interesting mod, so if I put a bucket under each side at the back i'll get an extra 10 miles, was told earlier if I loose one of the boot seats a tank will go nicely in there, I think I'm going to have to trawl the internet an see what I can find at what price.

TBR do long range tanks there are bound to be many other. If you have any fabricaters local ask them if they will make one to you sizes like on the trial vehicles. Does anyone know if its leagel to do that though or has it got to have a stamp of some sort.
-
Dave, did you put the kenlowe fan on your series III an did you notice any differance in fuel consumption, I take it the series III also has a viscous fan like the disco
-
Sorry mate it was already on so don't now any different. Cliff "digsit" has put one on charity a disco 200tdi and said it was a lot better.
-
might have to invest in an electric fan then, sounds like a money sacer in the long run
-
I have a 3.5 V8 on carbs and I can get about 200 miles from a full tank on a run. If I stick to 55 mph I can get about 230 on a good day.
I took off my viscous fan and fitted electrics which helps too.
I have an LPG conversion in mine so my fuel costs are now halved :)
-
i used to be able to squeeze 200 out of a tank on my old disco (v8 on carbs)
no idea what the rangie does to a tank as the fuel gauge is iffy to say the least and i've no idea how big the tank is so just fill up every 200 miles or so ~ £30
