Title: Lumenition
Post by: joe90 on February 14, 2006, 20:03:44: Has anyone fitted a Lumenition kit to their vehicle. Thinking of replaceing the old points and condenser with one of these fandangled devices. Have seen one fitted to an MGB and was impressed. Just after peoples advice before i spend my hard earned cash.

The guy who I got it from had had fun, :wink: turned out to be a burnt valve now sorted. :D About the only thing I've not had to piddle around with is the luminition. I love this kit! I can't begin to put in to words my feelings for points, far too many variables for things to go wrong.

Also fit some magnacor leads if you get chance, not cheap but flippin fantasic!

A Canadian firm now do an electronic dizzy for Series vehicles for about Ã‚Â£100. I made my own -modified an MG Metro dizzy to suit.

Post by: Evilgoat on February 15, 2006, 09:24:06: Audi has an Audi Specced unit and it is the mutts. Called the RAC out because car was doing odd things, he prodded it, looked at it funny, found all the non standard Autosport kit and the Luminition ECU and called out Audi....

Who turned up, plugged a laptop into the D9 serial port on the back of the ECU, tweekd a few things, hoisted the bonnet up, ripped out the fuel pump relay and put it back in and solved the problem. Was sat there drooling over the software looking at all thes tweekable things :)

He then went on to tell me a whole load of service points that needed looking at sooon, that my O2 sensor was going bad and removed the electronic govenor.

So yes, go for it. Even if its not the same all singing and dancing one I would reccomend it.

Post by: hingmy on February 16, 2006, 21:48:43: I had it in the ducelier dizzy in the old 2.25 and was so impressed at not having to do dwell etc that i put it on thelucas thingy on the v8 too. My only advice is take care postioning the amp and make sure you have a good earth point. I've actually extended the earth line down to the chassis/body mounts to make sure after some problems last year.

Post by: joe90 on February 17, 2006, 21:41:23: So how do i know which type of dizzy i have?? i know its a lucas, but dont know which type. its either a LUCAS 25D4/6 or a LUCAS 45D4/6. So whats the difference. Hopefully going to get my kit today.

Post by: V8MoneyPit on February 18, 2006, 13:00:17: The points in a 25D dizzy have a little nut to connect the condensor wire to. The 45D condensor has a blade with 2 wires that hooks into the points.

We've been selling the Lumenition kit for Mini's for years and have had lots of positive feedback from customers about it.
