OK all!
Who has or knows of someone with an import from Japan (landrover that is)?
Mine is. Is a VA vin (97) 300Tdi 'S' model. No roof bars, nor sunroof, cloth trim, no subwoofer for the wireless (but it did have the amp under the dash), steel wheels.
Lots of imports here especially V8s. Diesels are now nearly twice the price!! Woo hoo!!! 8)

I'd guess there are lots of them here too, there is always somebody advertising them (a business) in the LR comics each month.
They say they are low mileage, no corrosion, high spec so they sound good.
There will probably be some downsides to them though (I remeber Japanese cars being imported with no corrosion protection underneath).

I own a 96 300 TDI jap import, bought it in July 05 low mileage, half leather air, cruise etc etc

Hi Gary
Did you have to change the speedo for a MPH unit? Any other changes that you know of?
-
No, i bnought the Disco from a trader and it was already converted to MPH, had issues with fan belt and other belt as imports are different, apart from that no problems

I bought a grey import and the main changes are speedo to MPH, fitting of a rear fog lights and a good waxoil job.
The main problem is the insurance companys over here will either refuse to insure them ore load them therefore making them more expensive.
What you save on buying it you loose over the years on higher insurance cost and poor resale price.
The insurance problem may not apply in New Zealand, you tell me?
-
Hi,
Nope. Insurance see an import truck the same as a NZ new truck as they are the same!!!! Should also already have rear fog lights. Mine does.
Am curious about the belt issue in the prevoius post. Should be the same world wide unless it is an air con issue.
-
It's just our insurance companies being grabbing gits.
Take TPT+T and Fully Comp.
Why are they nearly the same price.
-
Yes the belt was to drive the aircon, apparently different ridges?
