:D got a m reg tdi disco today :D
:? dont know which is the best alarm to fit for insurance company?
any advice ie:can i fit one my self or do i need a specilist fitting and which type

If you want an insurance discount then you have to have it fitted by an approved fitter.
The best around and the one that has more toys available for it than any other is probably the Clifford
Try http://www.clifford.com/uk/default.asp for info

As said for insurance you need to get it fitted by a visb approved installer
Clifford , Toad , Sigma All good alarms and all have add on's depending how far you want to go and what you want it to do .
Another thought to think about is how much your going to spend on a top alarm as to how much your going to save on your insurance .
If your not saving much then a normal cat 2 immobiliser will be sufficient
and then you could self fit your own alarm .
What price do you put on losing your disco to scum
There's loads to choose from and like they say " you pays your money you takes your choice "
Hopefully it'll be the right one and you'll have the disco for many years to come .
Good luck

i went for a cobra 8510 immobiliser
however clifford are the rolls royce of alarms.
ring around your local alarm installers or if not ring Audio Vibe in MK and ask his advice see in garage service's forum the guy's genuine he will be sorting out some bits and pieces for me soon

Why not just get a devil duck?
My M reg disco has an alarm already built in by Land Rover.

IMHO
Buy TOAD, they are insurance approved (when fitted by a dealer), they are ultra reliable(mine is over 3 years old and survives lots of fairly severe off road use) and are dead easy to operate.
They have the usual range of accesories(mine has a 2 zone microwave sensor being a soft top, and so has pre-alert)
Some alarms(like clifford) are great if you want a whizzbang job that starts the car remotely, opens doors/boots etc, puts lights on so you can find it in a carpark, but they are pretty complicated.
Mine has a 2 button fob, works well, and has NEVER falsley gone off in the night(very important consideration)
:D

I agree with rollazuki. Toad are meant to make some of the best systems. I always thought Clifford were the best, especially with all the extra like remote start etc. I recently had an installer friend of mine do some work on my car and when discussing it he said Toad are allot better and it is all he ever fits to his cars.
Also with Clifford, beware of the extras like anti hijack. These can remove their thatcham approval as the systems are only tested in their basic form and they have not been tested and approved with the extras.
Some insurers won't mind as they will see it as extra security, but some will.

Ive seen that before and it made me laugh. It was great to see it again though but I had no sound with it this time. Really do need to get my sound card sorted out!
