Title: 300tdi Heater & cooling
Post by: joe90 on February 25, 2006, 14:39:07
Have just replaced the p gasket and water pump gasket and fitted a new thermostat, on my 300tdi but it seems to have an air lock.

Run it up to temperature, the heater blows cold, took the cap of the header tank and it was full..... yet the radiator top hose was cold as were the two hoses going into the heater through the bulk head.

Im now confused and have given up for an hour ...... any ideas and advice on curing this problem?

when i did my 200tdi i disconected the heater hose. think it was the bottom one. i ran the engine util it came through the heater matric and then reconected the hose while still running. after that i toped the rad up until the level was correct in the exspansion tank    hth

Well have just removed the new stat, and run without - and what do ya know - it takes alot longer to get warm, but the heater now works and there isnt any air in the system

conclusion - brand new stat - faulty!!

Easy way to test it is to stick it in a cup of hot water and see if it opens.

Tried that Paul, no movement whatso ever. So annoying, you'd think new parts to work right, at least for a couple of days !!!
