Title: glow plug warning light on dash, new owner HELP!!
Post by: kev.top on February 25, 2006, 16:33:35
Hi all. I am finally the proud owner of a 300 tdi (saving all my pennies). Had the car a few months now and have developed a strange fault. When i turn the key the glow plug light on the dash seems only to work when it wants to grrr. The glow plug timer works every time, clicks off after about 10 secs approx. The power works as it should to the glow plugs when tested with a avo meter. Ok i thought let's change the glow plugs, just for the grin. Still no luck. Could it be the timer possibly, looked at wiring diagram for landy and it seems that the lamp is powered from a seperate circuit within the timer......please help, need to tame my stroppy landy.

regards
kev

Hi Kev
Just be careful, if the power to the plugs is ok and the motor starts ok in this weather you may be looking at something as simple as a loose bulb or a bad connection.
Many a good auto electrician has spent time looking in the wrong place only to find it is a simple fault. #-o

Howdy from New Zealand

I would beg borrow steal another timer from a 300Tdi and try it. The relay could be faulty. I had issues with mine. New (2nd hand) unit fixed it!

Or possibly in this weather the car doesn't need to wait for the glow plugs to heat up?
