Title: April 'LRO'
Post by: Bush Tucker Man on February 27, 2006, 20:18:59
This dropped through the letter-box this morning, I've just been browsing & it's got a very revealing 'Behind The Scenes' memoirs of the late 1980's Land Rover 90 advert.

The one where the red & cream 90 drives off into a river & winches itself up the Dam wall
Whilst 'The Dambusters March' is playing

Worth a read, I remember it being on TV & thinking "WOW!!!"

ISTR they had to go through a similar process when challenged over a Discovery advert...  it was towing a 747 :-)

Audi got it with the ad of the then brand new A4 Quattro pulling a tractor trailer.

I believe so, back in the 60's they just got on with it & towed a rake of railway wagons.
They did the same with the Discovery when it was launched as well (I've seen pictures of a Police liveried '200' shape on rails)

On a similar vein, a near-neighbour, who's a ROW officer with the S3 Club, & occasionally does press work/off-road demos for LR, recently told me that (I think he said) a factory contact told him that they'd had a Defender on rails & it had moved almost a 1000tons!!!!!
Seems a bit excessive, but given the relative lack of friction,  I have no reason to doubt him
