Title: What brand CD player do i fit?
Post by: bambamjj on February 27, 2006, 22:14:07
Hi all

Have a disco with bass speaker in door.  When i got her she had standard cassette player fitted which sounded really tinnie then realised rear door bass speaker was not connected.

Connected this no problems and sound improved greatly but now the unit has given up the ghost with no dislay and unable to use front keys to input code.

Is there a manufacturer say Sony who's unit will fit without the need of using the rear door Bass speaker just Disco standard 4 speakers.

Thanks

Jon

Pioneer DEH series.  I bought an mp3 cd player ages ago and it goes strong, bought a sony one to replace it and ended up putting the pioneer one back in cos the quality was remarkably better!

just remember,if you fit a "standard" din size cd player it will out of the dash about an inch, you will not get one to fit properly as the old cassette player on a disco is shorter than normal......I made a plastic spacer

Go buy your self a copy of max power and traul through the back pages. They are full of car stereos and cheap places to buy them online. I bought a JVC headunit a while back, the quality is not the very best, but for the price it was and still is very good.

Good makes that will make head units to suit your need include

Sony
Alpine
JVC
Pioneer
Blaupunkt

I have a business card of a chap who refurbs car radios and lives in south wales. the last owner of my disco sent my radio off to him and it is like new. its a shame the cd player doesnt work as well but i am thinking of sending it off to him to be mended as well.

I can dig out the card if you like.

I bought the JVC from Halfords that was £69.99 .It fitted in the hole no probs and didnt stick out at all. This is my third one the first got nicked after surviving a drenching at  Langley farm. The second one got drenched at Langley farm and never recovered .I must remember to take it out before the mudhole this year.

I prolly shuoldn't say this, but I work for panasonic, adn their car stereos are pretty good (if you like flashign lights) most of them have line outs for pretty much everything so can drive the factory bass amped speaker... I get staff discount and am allowed to pass this on to friends so long as I dont make any money out of it.. we are all friends here right?

If you dont get a pana, then I think you need a HU with sub line out if the sub is amped, if not then you need an output with selectable cross over

In General you want a type that can work even with you bouncing around, a good memory reserve to stop it skipping when playing helps

Good choice, I think it will be my next one when this one dies on me, the sd cards are great, 1 gig of music is a lot of tracks, normal cds only carry just over half that

Also interchangeable with pda's etc
