I spent this afternoon sorting out my finances.
After a full year of landy ownership, I've spent £1102.55 just keeping the bloody thing on the road .
Done
TD Rebuild
TDI Conversion inc engine and parts
Full Fluid Change
Front Wheel Bearings
New Starter
Filters
Belts
steering Box
PAS Pipe Work
Couple of other odds and sods
Still to do
Patch both bulkhead corners
Replace drivers/passengers doors
Replace drivers side CV Joint
Find out why the new engine is burning oil - could be anything
Replace Cam belt
New tyres
Wax oil chassis
Could have brought a newer landy with the amount I've spent on that little lot.
So who else is prepared to admit to how much they have spent on there [Insert Make of 4x4].
*edit - Sorry forgot this was an all marque forum changed to suit
-
I er...refuse point blank to answer that :-)
-
Its not the thing todo when you own a Landy, lifes too short to count money anyway.....................................................................................................plus the missus might read this
-
Well... excluding MOT test fees... I reckon it has cost me about 500 quid to keep Tigger on the road in the past 12 months.... a good chunk of that went of a block-up rebuild of the engine
-
Not likely - SWMBO might see.
Not too bad I suppose about £1000 over 2 years.
Double what I paid for it......
BUT!
you'd lose more than that on a new car just by registering it!! Over 2 years you'd lose a fortune.
Actually more like £800 - including paras/procomps, canvas/sticks roll bar, modulars/BFGs....not bad at all really
-
Nothing on the Landy, dont have one
In 6 weeks on the Vitara, about £1200
New Soft Top
New Tyres
New Pads and shoes
New Exhaust
Spraypaint, filler and sandpaper
Snorkel
Bullbars
Spot wiring bits
Dizzy cap, rotor plugs and leads
Fan Belt
Alternator Brushes and BAttery on the way
IN comparison, since the beginning of the year, money spent on Audi : £0
-
i dont want to work it out
-
the new gecko 90 has cost me over £5000 as it stands at this time and ive only had it a week or 2
-
Money and fair words
-
With the IIa I've had years when I'm in 4 figures and years when I'm in two figures not counting insurance.
I've a chassis to replace now which should take me years to save for with the present to do list.

If I was honest it would have to be around £1500 + on mods and accessories in the last year on the disco.
If you counted the total spent on the disco and Series 1 since owning them both I could be driving a nice D2 instead, but with out half the fun.

Just read my post, looks as if i was complaining, don't get me wrong i enjoy owning a landy. if i didn't want to spend a lot of cash on a vehicle i would have characterless Euro box.
Also one advantage to being single, no one to nag about how much i'm spending on it.

My missus thought I was going to keep the Niva 'standard' and nice and clean, even payed for a valet on it when I bought it!!
Turned her nose up when I put the Lift kit on, tyres and Snorkel etc and wasn't best pleased when I put a couple of dents in it too!!
Took her to an offroad track at the weekend, with bombholes, side slopes, big rutts and drop offs!! Had to go round twice, shes came out with a BIG grin over her face!!!!
BONUS!!!!!! Right then, lets order my tubular bumpers and............

Over the years the amount i have spent on Landrovers in one shaoe form or another is way to scary for me to sit and firgure out, that said i am pretty sure i could have spent the same amount on a very nice 6 bedroom cottage in the country somewhere.
BUT where would be the fun in that?
We spend money on them because we love them so much, they become part of the family, for instance one of my landrovers has been in the family (now mine) for 30yrs how could you put a cost on the memories and fun.
-
The cost to keep a land rover going is not too bad, certainly when you have a merc G to compare it too.
Not long after getting a G we bought another G with a nackered clutch for £150. Given the amount of money its saved on spares, the second G probably is (or was) genuinely worth its weight in gold. German reliabilty? don't belive every thing you hear, especially when its 20 years old.

Big Boy (Disco 1) - don't even go there
(Tigger) New Toy (RR) - don't even go there

A couple of years ago I bought an Aprilia RSV-R Edwards. There was nothing I could do to it to improve it, it had the best of everything fitted as standard. It cost £13,000. I lost £6,500 when I sold it last year.
The Disco cost me £900 and I've spent around £2,500 uprating, upgrading and repairing it. I have only used it off road once so far, every other weekend (and a lot of evenings) have been spent working on it. I don't think it will ever be truly "finished" but I am looking forward to getting it very, very dirty and dented.
The point is this. The Disco has cost a lot less than the bike did and it has provided me with far more entertainment. I reckon its cheap.
Philosophy at this time of the morning .... hmmmmm.

(not including buying it)
£57.23

and I also run a suzuki bandit 600 and a vauxhall zafira diesel which has cost me £1400 in the 6 months we have owned it!!!!

bought the Peugeot less than 2 tears ago for £4000 sold it last month for £1750 thats a loss of £2250 only work it needed was servicing and an exhaust
the Discovery cost me £4700 and so far needs a new battery i hope to keep it for a good few years
-
Well on the disco which I have only had since Nov1st not including buying it £600-700 ish. The rover 620i since I bought it off my dad in 1999 well haha about £3k I think but £1100 of that was coz I went through a flood too deep and put a piston through the bottom of the engine so needed a rebuild and that isnt including insurance BUT it has passed 5 out of its 7 mot's first time and this years one failed on all the advisories from last year so it was my own lazyness it failed this year!
I will never get rid of the rover 620 as I have replaced so much now and the running gear is like a 2 year olds car kind of and it is better the devil you know!
-
Every thing only ever cost's about £10, just ask swmbo  ,
John.

Errr, mmmm, errr, well put it this way, when I remortgaged the house eighteen months ago I told them I wanted to build a conservatory, then I had a play in Bob's Landy (I'd only been a passenger before)... bought my own .... and well the rest is history - along with the conservatory fund.
So what have I spent the money on?
1 x Landrover 3.5 litre V8, 110
4 x new tyres
1 x new wing (ask Bob )
1 x Foley Specialist vehicles lifting roof
1 x stainless steel sports exhaust
1 x ignition switch
1 x winch bumper
1 x winch
1 x rear step
2 x side steps
2 x replacement LPG tanks
1 x Optima yellow top
1 x bonnet fan
1 x bonnet
1 x bonnet spare wheel mounting point
(no longer wanted - anyone interested?)
1 x side awning
1 x farm jack
1 x rear ladder
2 X front light guards
2 x rear light guards
(don't need the passenger side one any more - anyone interested?)
2 x rear bump stops
Full set Mill services 2" lift plates
1 x CD Player
1 x Fridge/Freezer
1 x Cooker
1 x Porta Potti ( it IS a camper!)
Plus dual battery relay, switch panel, miscellaneous bits n pieces that I can't remember... etc, etc. And that list doesn't count what we have spent on HIS landrover.....
Please, please, please don't ask me to add it all up (and nobody spill the beans to the bank manager).
But looking at it in a 'landy friendly' sort of way... My 'conservatory' can't half go places!
-
IN comparison, since the beginning of the year, money spent on Audi : £0
That's Audi for you... Rock solid.
So far I've spent nothing...
-
darnd`t admit how much ive spent on the landy`s since ive owned them swmbo could be looking
-
she forgot to mention
the custom made seats,
the connector and cable for the winch,
curtains and material to match the front seats (she made the back seats herself),
carpets,
wood,
sink,
tap,
seat belts,
chequer plate to patch the holes up with,
converting the single 110L lpg tank in the back to two torpedo tanks mounted above the chassis
front bumper recovery points
wing top protectors
Air scoops
oh yeah and still to be fitted
Stainless raised air intake with cyclone top
Halogen headlight conversion
I need a better paid job just to keep up with her spending  I dont have to lie to swmbo, I just have to pay for it.
Not going to tell her about my plans for the rear xmember of my 90 ...... ooopppsss
-
oh... & i drove through a puddle in november & im still paying for it now, stands at about £800 +
-
i've owned the disco for 4 years now and its just like trigger's brush, its had new engine and gear box and trans box, god knows how many times i've replaced wheel bearing and other bits. plus all the off road goodies. i think including buying it its not far short of £15,000. sure i could have had a scooby etc there would be no load carrying or towing ability. and lets face it i bet scooby owners and the likes don't get a friendly wave when they see other fans.
-
Money and fair words
I think I've pretty much replaced every moving part on the car since we bought it. I'm not keeping track but I know I walked out of Paddocks £500 lighter TWICE last year
-
Bought my little Suzuki Sammy for £450 (Ebay) and then spent £630 to just get it moderately sorted!.
Wife thinks I spent about £200 so best not let her see this !! :D :D :D

-
:D just bought a disco for £2600 so got to spend some more onit soon
plus £200 for rangie plus £80 in bits so far but more to come

-
Err, also forgot to mention the new starter motor and clutch (essential repairs ).
I am wondering if anyone has ever thought of starting 'L. O. A.' (Landrover Owners Anonymous), like the AA it could help people with a Landy addiction.... So long as they don't ask me to sell it!
But as Jake says Am i having fun with it?
Hell yeah!!
-
£2,175 for vehicle, respray and parts "inc 2" lift" £2,801 so far & still more to add when I finally find a new job. it'll be worth it in the end.
-
As an additional point to my previous one's, does me having to buy a people carrier because all my landrovers are cabs count as a cost ?
If so ermmmmmm add 14k on top of the bill
-
I spent 25p on a rubber seal for my cav injector pump....
-
I just dont think about it........ not so painfull then :?
