Title: Vibration?
Post by: Bob696 on March 03, 2006, 18:14:20
I have a vibration on the 90. Not all the time but getting more frequent. You can feel it in the drivers seat and a little in the steering wheel.

You can hear a rapid drone at times as well but not necasserly whilst the vibration is happening.

Its not a wheel bearing. All checked and one replaced. Checked all UJs with the screw driver waggle test. Even dropped the front prop out to double check (told that is the most likely one to go because of the lift).

It started not long after I changed the front passenger side turret securing ring.

Could knackered bushes cause this problem? If so, how can I check it? or should I be looking somewhere else? Steering feels fine btw as is breaking.

I am going to drop the rear prop off tomorrow and double check that. Just wanted a few ideas of what else to check  :!:

Changed a UJ on the rear prop as well as a wheel bearing. Nasty noises stopped but still getting a vibration through the peddles and steering wheel.

As it mainly happens at about 40mph I am starting to think it might be the wheels out of balance but I cant see how that has happened. I havnt off roaded it or clipped the curb recently.

Off to check the wheel weights are still there.
Change the bushes this weekend and strip the handbreak down as it didnt fell that great when I was taking the rear prop off.

Have you checked the swivelhousing preload?

Just jack one front wheel, grab the tyre at the 12 & 6 o'clock positions and wiggle. If there's movement then your swivel pins/bearings are loose, it's sometimes best to get someone else to lay under the front and watch for movement on the large seal on the chrome swivel.

cheers budgie. Everything appears to be rock steady. I have some doubts about the one wheel as it looks like one of the wieghts MAY be missing (but not totaly convinced), I swopt it with the spare and and will check it on the drive to work tomorrow.

had  a vibration from mine.  turned out to be the raduis arm bushes worn out.

you can tell by seeing if the diff raises and lowers when somebody else applies drive/brakes (be careful)

the symptoms where a vibration along with a knocking from under the passenger seat area. Also when braking and stopping you could feel the axle twist back into place when  the brake pedal was released.

hope this make sense

 :D
