Can anyone tell me what this is and where it came from?
-
That looks gross :-&
-
iron filings in oil? from your sump? diff? gearbox?
-
yeh old boy downstairs needs a wash! ;)
-
vtrdaz got it.
Its the gunk stuck to the magnetic drain plug off my rear diff (full pic attached). A bit worrying as it's only been a year since the last service.
Now I'm doing it myself I'll make sure it's every 6 months or so . . . :?
-
looks more like my sons hair before he goes out lol :D :D
-
thought it was a hard hedgehog
-
:D thats why they put a magnet on the plug think it works well in your case stops the filings doing to much damage
-
from the looks of that, I think I might be investing in a set of those magnetic plugs.
-
:) :) Not a bad zoom on yer camera lenses...what sort of camera is it...I want one...bye now
  Billy with no camera or mates

It is a Nikon Coolpix 4600 on macro mode. Excellent little pont and shoot digital camera and easy enough for our 5 year old to work as well.
TBH I could've got a better picture with SWMBO's Minolta digital SLR, but I'm not allowed to use it that often, and certainly where oily gunk is present . . . . :?

Where did ya get the mag plugs from, Simon?

Mike,
Std on a D2 apparently
-
Will they fit other LR products?

it's only been a year since the last service.
Just checked the service schedule, and apart from topping up of axle oil every other service, it should only be renewed every 96k miles
Don't think I'll be following that regime.
-
At least you're safe in the knowledge that all the metal is stuck to the magnet and not floating around in the oil. :D Quite agree tho' change it more often.

i was gunna guess at a sh1tflies rectalpipe!
