Dont do anything else on your pc and get a data recovery disc from a friendly local pc shop, had this prob once and managed to recover most, but if u keep using you will over write any lost info. Go get one now

As Landylass says, don't do anything else!!!

There is a tool called File Scavenger that can find and recover deleted files quite efficiently.  You can download it from t'web and give it a go.  If it finds your stuff then register it and away you go.

Apart from the obvious backing up ritual, I find to avoid a lot of crash loas, I use a second drive to store downloads etc on. On the main system its inside the box, on the laptop its in a caddy usb2 drive box, although it could still loose data, not so likely as storing on the main boot drive

Even Computer tech's loose stuff, i know this because of all the stuff i have lost over the years

Easiest and best way to ensure the safe-keeping of your cherished pictures is as already said to add at least another HD to your machine, have running system on one and everything else on the other.

You could be really sad and do as i have and run 2 PATA drives 100gig each and 2 SATA drives 80gig each and a DVD drive then have a DVD rewriter for the stuff you need to use on other machines.

Expensive in the short term but then my machine also act's as a back up server for my website, that and i have at least 50 gig of pic's of landrovers/landrover related stuff plus all the family pic's i store on there.

I remember loosing pic's i took of one of my daughters the day she was born, you can never replace that stuff.

Also even though it is 3 weeks past SOME stuff may still be 'recoverable' as it were with the right software, there is NO guarantee but still worth a try.

Maybe a silly question but you never know.

Have you actuarially emptied your Recycle bin?

If not the files can be restored.

My pc backs up to both my internal and external servers every night, the chances of all 3 going down are minimal but still possible!
