Well I went to see family in Oxford this week, left in the Frontera came home in a Proton. As I got near my brothers I noticed the fuel pressure dropping and when I got there it had redlined. I dipped it and it was empty, I then topped it up and started it again and it was smoking like a 14 year old outside the local off licence.
I have been told it was terminal so I bought my brothers old Proton to keep me mobile.
Hopefully in the future (depending on funds) I will be able to get myself another 4x4 to get my mud fix.
Here (http://www.barryscott.me.uk/gallery2/d/1346-1/Frontera+RIP.wmv) is my tribute.
EDIT: Fuel pressure should read oil pressure

:( :( :( sad video :(
hope it all goes well mate :)

Barry,
I will wear a black armband for a week out of respect for Guinness.
But you must look to the future, and make sure you get the right colour and shape to the badge this time

Erm, I think that'd be OIL pressure!!, You ARE meant to check it weekly y'know!!!, not suprised it gave up and died if that's how you've treated it!! It can't have just 'gone' you'd have noticed the oilsmoke!![/horrified car lover mode]
[s'OK it's not a landy mode]
Sounds like the piston rings are shot if it's smoking like that! I presume it's a petrol?[/s'OK it's not a landy mode]

The pressure was dropping during the journey, it was fine at the start and the smoke did not start till later. The oil was all over the floor and as the smoke was white it was probably not from the oil. And yes, I meant to write oil pressure.

Right you bunch of wusses get your pinkys on to ebay and find another lump for the old gal... blimmey not going to let a little thing like no engine get in the way of a good old mud plugging are yer
Nice vid though, playful little tinker wasn't it...syncronised mudding at it's best.
-
Just watched the video - brings a tear to the eye! I think you should get it on the road again, you know you want to!
-
Thanks for the comments. Unfortunately my mechanical skills max out at brake disc replacement, I have no idea what to do with engines.
The money would be better spent by being put aside till I can afford something with a green oval as many here suggest. It will probably be hitting ebay soon for spares.
-
bad news barry mate! im going to miss pulling that little car out of the mud! hope you get a new motor sorted soon
regards james
-
I pray its just a little gasket.
Looks like great fun was had in the mud there!
-
Bad luck Barry. I hope the withdrawal symptoms aren't to severe.
-
Completed remanufactured engine used to be £800 from Vxhall (2.2 16v)
-
There's one for sale round here, its a copper bronze one, dont smoke seen it running, nice colour
-
Just chuck a 2L in from an old cavelier and nail it !! buy a scrapper for under a £100 !
Nice powersliding in the mud mate ! :D
Everyone else too ! :D :D

Really bad news Matey from someone that understands. My first car was a Proton 1.5mpi. Fastish in a straight line but cornered like barge. You hate it as much as i hated mine i am sure. And theres me thinkin' theres no downward step from a Frontera.
-
Hard luck, it happens though.
Fitting a replacement engine isnt easy but its not too hard eother. Just make sure you get the right engine. Undo all the harness(take lots of piccies and lable things) Get an engine hoist hired and unblot from its mounts/ gearbox and take it out.
Use the photos to put it all back.
Im sure frontera engines must be 2 a penny nowadays.
-
That was soooooooo beautiful n sad
-
Sorry to hear of the sad loss you have just suffered. You have to bear in mind though that every cloud has a silver lining.....
......bring on the green oval! :(bigwicked):
-
sure that in exchange for beer tokens the guys on here will be able to help you out.. the best lessons are learnt through doing it yourself!
..like PUMP YOUR BRAKES AFTER CHANGING PADS!! - thats one lesson i wont forget in a hurry!
all you need is an engine lift, a replacement engine (2.0LET/or V6????!!? ) and a long weekend with a couple of mates!
i would say sod it and space dependant (no good doing it on side of main road) go for the 2.8 derv conversion, will be able to pick up a bent 5 door derv for next to nowt i`m sure.
try www.thorntonbreakers.co.uk they seem to collect fronteras at one point!
dont loose faith
-
I won't put any money into the Fronty, I will save for this Green Oval of which you all speak.
The proton is not so bad, this model is the 1.6 with disc brakes all round and corners well.
It's no 4x4 though.
-
Blimey.....I was almost CRYING..... That was a great time at WWW2. Hope to see ya in a 4x4 soon. Good LUCK
-
Lots of spirit in the old gal.
Sounds like a head gasket is there any oil floating in your radiator, if so its an easy fix and not to pricey if you don't fancy changing it yourself.
Offer it as a practical test / project at your local motoring college (diagnose and repair) the little blighters will be greatful of the challenge and it will only cost you a couple of 10p mixes and a bottle of coke.
-
  My condolences Barry..I watched your video...very moving experience...the two of you seemed very suited...by the way how do you produce a video like that...the music was very appropriate as well...top marks mate..... =D> =D>

-

I just use the Windows Movie Maker that came installed on my PC with Windows XP, it is really easy to use.

The little Frontera was a great little 4x4

Thanks for all the kind words.
Jake, I like that picture. My dad took some there and some video but cannot find them so yours is the only 1 I can find (and looks great).
