got an oily substance on the gaitor of the gearsticks any ideas
-
Do you mean that some oily gunk is oozing from the gaitor like some pustulent boil?
If you pick at it it'll never get better that I do know.

oil???
had to be done ;)

No-one has been any help including me.
I have no idea what it can be or more importantly where it's coming from but you must find out as it might be important. Take that gaitor off and have a look!

Have you recently filled the gearbox?
As said before look behind the gator, is oil being blown down and accumulating on the gator from somewhere else?
-
it could just be a typical land rover thing, just oil mixed in with the crap that you find under a land rover, i got it all over my transfere box, in a panick i got under with a steam cleaner, cleaned it off drove it for a couple of weeks hoping to find a leak but there wasnt a leak so i put it down to the green and gold oval badge on the grill

ok serious....could be oil mist blowing from a breather and accumulating on the gaitor..just a thought

aquired vehicle in june had snorkal fitted with breather kit
so need to check if the breather is blocked or the gearbox has been overfilled, or if its the front diff seal or another suggestion wes the fuel pressure switch
just need a dry day to check
