Hi all!
Has anyone fitted a boost gauge to their Disco? If so, where do you connect it? Is it electronic or mechanical.
Ta!! :P
-
i had one on my 90,it was a 1 bar tims guage but i had it going of the scale so got a 2 bar 1,anyway i drilled & brazed a t into the top intercooler pipe so it was giving a reading of what preasure was in the inlet manifold
-
Definately mechanical, if you have a 200TDi then you are supposed to get about 0.85 bar and a 300TDi is about 1 bar, so buy a 1.5 or 2 bar guage.
Fitting also depends on what engine you have (they are differant turbos), which is yours?
-
here's mine it's plumbed into the inlet hose just before the manifold
-
ooo i didnt know u could fit one of those 8) now i know u can i think that would like great on the dash.
Mike wat exaclty is involved in wiring one in ? could ya gis a shout in msn about it plz ta
-
and if u fit one dont be tempted to up the boost - you can knacker the engine very quickly
-
Yours is a 300 series Turbo, which connects in a different place, but have a look at this thread (http://forums.mud-club.com/viewtopic.php?t=11572&highlight=boost+gage+guage&start=40) which is where I got my advise to fit it.
The connector hides under some pipes, but it wasn't as bad as it sounds

yep,go beyond 1 bar ish & expect the head gasket to go pop in about 1500 miles,
although if you fit the 300 actuator to a 200 it gives 20 psi o boost & 2000 miles before it goes pop
-
exactly - well said Mikey!
-
thanks david :) lol shant fiddle with anything lol take all my courage to cut and drill anything let alone fiddle
and a big thanks tim very usefull

Hi all!
Thank you for the replies. It seems that the connection may be on to the pipe that goes to the MAP sensor on the firewall. Correct?

Hi
I fitted a 2 bar gauge to my 300Tdi about 3 years ago just to see what the turbo was actually giving. I plumbed it in to the 6mm plastic tube that comes from the turbo to the fuel pump (I think), anyway I just used a 6mm push in Tee and then fed a 6mm nylon pipe up thro' the bulkhead to the dash. At full boost I can still get 1 bar with 200k on the clock!
Cheers

Just to be sure, which is yours - a 200 series or a 300 series?

 Hello! Mine is a 300 series wif EDC.

not sure why the head will pop after 1500 miles
mine ran at 1.6 bar, with a huge intercooler and tweaked pump for the 25k miles i owned her for without any side effects, its still going strong and had done for the 3 years before i bought it

but mine's was running over 1 bar on a 200 with standard cooler & tweaked pump,
after discussing with Mr buck from D4x4 it would appear that its a common thing if you go mad with the boost on a tdi
