You can fit +30% bulbs, available from any motor factor.  These do make quite a difference, but don't take any more power so won't fry the wiring.  Try this first as it's cheap and easy and you may find does as much as you need.

Up grade the wiring and add relays, then you can put higher wattage bulbs, or you could try some Xenon bulbs, supposed to be brighter but dont drain the power so much, also are you headlight bowls rusty?

True, good point

When I upgraded the wiring and fitted relays, I fitted new wiring and connectors too. Just used the olds feeds as switching wires for the relays

I've found a drop of over 1volt between the fusebox and the headlight in the original wiring, I can't fit relays as the car has dim-dip.  I'm using +50% bulbs from Halfrauds as th3ese are on BOGOF.

BTW most new bulbs are Xenon as opposed to Iodine which was used untill a few years ago, so the +30% is a bit of a myth, most are that now anyway.

And running a Halogen bulb below it's rated voltage shortens it's life BTW.

I have the same problem with dim dip, just dont run on sidelights

It chatters the headlight relay if I do, still not been able to disable the flaming thing
