good on ya, easier than ya car test!!
-
:D And the very best of luck with it now RELAX
-
As long as you're not in a Volvo you'll be fine, so just relax.
-
Dont worry about the length just think width, until you get used to it, pick that spot on the dash where the kerb passes so you are a safe distance away from it
A piece of --water--

I passed in a Volvo with a range change gearbox :) Better to learn that from the start that deal with that and the trailer in the next one ;)
-
Good luck!!!
Its a lot different to the car test, easier i thought but,
I found it quite mentally exhausting though, so be prepared.
Start my class 1 next week, so going throught all again!!
and i did it in a volvo!!
-
Excuse my ignorance, but what is a 'range change gearbox'??
-
roughly a range change is
go through changing up 4, 6, 8 gears normally
flick a switch and go through the gears again
-
so its like a low high transfer box that you change while driving
alternatives include
low mid high range change
high low double low range change
and then try this using a low high switch with gear changes
l1 h1 l2 h2 l3 h3 l4 h4 l5 h5 l6 h6 l7 now you pull the gear lever accross to 8 flick to highback to 7 (9) which was an old scania :(bigwicked):
dont mention the merc with the up and down gearbox and a que of people taking turns to find reverse :(stoopid):
-
Throw in a two speed axle and a crash box and ya laughing!

oh ye forgot about that bit of fun :(thinkhard):
repaired a few of them dodge with a merc engine in :(bigangry):
-
give me a good old eaton twin splitter any day   .
And as for the merc box i always looked for a downhill to reverse down saved trying to find the dam reverse gear. (think it used to go out for the day and not tell me as it was never there when i needed it) :D
-
they sound complicated boxes, i'll stick to the John Deere Special, Range A-E - 1-4 in each range with a left hand reverser - simple, but then again thats life at 25 mph!!
-
good luck matey u will do fine :D
dan
-
nowt wrong with volvo,s :D passed my test in one of them at least then i had control of the gearbox not a flippin computer that thinks it knows better than me
-
Good luck
If you have any questions or want any advice
just ask
-
took my test in a volvo fl7 - easy range change box in there
-
Nowt wrong with Volvos? Based on a Certain 8 legger FL10 I have to dis agree, it gave more hassle than an Old Leyland Constructor did in 12 years.
The Range Gearbox's are simple enough, the DAFs is just 4 gears taken N-2-4, flick the switch then up the high range 4. High Range Reverse is good as well, backing at about 30mph!
-
FL10,s used to call them wendy houses  my old man had one he drove all over europe
-
Trust me it was called a lot worse than a Wendy House. It was just generally a terrible wagon, Unloaded it had no rear traction, and in the Tipper job that's not a good thing, it did 4 pistons in and then one day dumped all it's Oil onto the Quarry parking.
Factor in the fact it was a gutless 320bhp (340bhp DAF walks away from it for fun) and it wasn't exactly loved, some poor sods in Leeds has got it now, so if anyone sees M813 XKC feel very sorry for them.
