Title: Changing gearbox filter
Post by: Merlin on March 18, 2006, 11:53:48
On my 1990 4 speed auto box does the sump drop down to change the filter OK.
I have heard that the crossmember has to be moved but this is not mentioned in the W/shop manuel. It says remove the bolts & drop the sump, straightforward it would seem.
Which is right ??

Surely you can tell be looking?  If the cross member has to come off, so does the exhaust.

Did the job today, No need to take the exhaust off or move it.  Loostened the crossmember, hammered it down & then swiveled it backwards (hammer job) & the g/box sump can be wangled out.
New filter/rubber seals/rubber sump gasket (glued that on with "Copydex"
& all back together.
About 5 hours allowing for coffee
Now for the rest of it's Spring Service before MOT in 3 weeks time.
Cogs :D  :D
