If we all kick up the proverbial then the Jag & BMW driver might get it in the neck as well, as i recall the Mini Cooper has worse emmisions and fuel economy than my 1.8 Freelander

Why not as the figures start to show, I believe the new mot's have to record the emissions levels on the computer, if so  why dont thay tax the offending High figured vehicles accordingly

I be it would make interesting reading

good lord, sounds like hes actually made some sensible decisions on the fuel tax.

Very low emission vehicles could qualify for 0%

The few very high emission vehicles upto £210 (new vehicles)

this means it will actually encourage people to buy lower emision vehicles but doesn't target 4x4s specifically so big sports cars and executive cars will be taxed the same.

and he claims less tax to be paid on biofuels

Reading it a little more carefully he's not given that much away, 0% only applies to a few cars that no-one buys.  It's crap anyway, as electric cars still relay on fossil fuel power stations so all he's done is moved the polution.

the emissions test is a bloody joke....i had my 02 Td5 disco in for its MOT last month and it failed 5 times.......on emissions...... ...next day i put some stuff in the fuel to clean the injectors ...took it for a blast on the spine road, after took her back in with engine red hot ....passed first time

So what part of "you had blocked injectors which was causing the engine to be missfueld and therefor run inefficiently" is the joke exactly ?

personally I don't find any of it all that humourous.

At the end of the day, the emmisions tests are there to give and indicator of the condition (or at least the efficiency) of the engine.   Granted there is a very fine line between "OK" and "not", but there always will be and at least this way, once a year an engine is running as it was designed to.

Anybody who takes a diesel for an MOT without first ragging the nuts of it down the nearest dual carrigeway deserves to fail on emmisions, diesels esp landrover ones are very cool running and taking a cold engine for an emmisions test is lunacy

Deisels by design dont work very efficiently when not up to operating temperature and you'll be very lucky to pass, this is another reason for not using them for short trips, if its not long enough for the engine to get up to temp your better of walking/cycling. If more people did the i'm sure the air would be a lot cleaner.

Steve

PS mine passed its MOT yesterday and the emmisions were one of the lowest the tester had seen    "running on fresh air" was his comment - its amazing what a well set up fuel pump and good engine oil can achieve

well thanks lads...i've never been called thick and not funny in one day before......the problem with the injectors was that carbon has been building up due to the fact we have been told were not driving the car hard enough ie not using the turbo????? it was comment that was never meant to be funny just telling a storey......and the comment about taking the car in cold ....yes i know better now for next year, but how we all would like to have all your know how ....we dont so try and be a little more tolerant with those of us that are new to landrovers please, but tell me how do you get over this if when you drop your vehicle off for its mot ....nice and hot and then its left standing for a while ......what then...
