Title: egr blanking plate
Post by: landroverkeith on March 24, 2006, 08:47:01
I know that theres been a post previously about these egr things

but wat exactly is it and wat does it do ?

ebay seems to have several blanking plate kits for sale and was wondering if it was good idea to get one?

of late my disco has been bit of a money pit so trying to keep it on the road is bad enough without buying my mods :(

This is probably the cheapest mod available!

Your engine has a Exhaust Gas Recirculation unit attached to the side, which at low revs opens up and allows the hot exhaust gas back into the inlet - blah blah blah* - block the inlet with a plate and you will improve low end performance.

* I could go on for ages about why this is a good/bad thing, use the search at the top for EGR and have a read through a few of the topics, let me know if you can't work it out

OK - so if you remove the EGR valve completely, rather than blanking it off and leaving the EGR gear in place, is there any 'real' benefit to removing the gear and using a single silicon pipe rather than leaving it in place with the standard pipe with the t-piece?

i.e. blanking and leaving the valve on costs next to nothing . . . .  Blanking, removal and silicon pipes costs about £70.

Does the cost really justify the end result?

All a bit subjective as far as I'm concerned. Agreed the TDi runs smoother at low end without EGR but I aint fully convinced that £70 will make it any better . . . . other than 'looking good' when you pop the bonnet.
