I've been given a VDO tacho from a TD5 90. Is there any way i can get it to work with a 200TDI?
AFAIK the TD5 took the tacho signal from the ECU rather than the alternator, so dose the ECU give out the same signal as the alternator.

I'm not sure if it'll work on a 200TDi - the TD5's tacho's are specially calibrated and amplified to take the signal from the ECU.
If you decide to sell it however i am very very very interested :)

genuine part tacho or a VDO one???

Yep its a genuine Land Rover one, with TD5 printed on the face.

Are there any calibration switches on the back if it???
With the VDO ones you can adjust them to suit the input signal, but not sure about the genuine part ones.

There is no adjustment on the back of the unit at all. Must come ready set-up for Land Rover.
I take it that with the TD5 being a 5 cylinder and the TDI only having four, if it did happen to work, it would still give the wrong reading. in which case it looks as if it's not going to work then :( .
Thanks for the help anyway.

Number of cylinders doesn't make a difference, is purely a voltage output depending on speed.
You've also got a pm.

So Matthew - how much do you want for it?

Sorry smo, the chap that gave me the tacho wanted it back when I told him i couldn’t use it.
Think he may have earmarked it for something.
