Wasn't there some dreadful cover of that a few years back that should have been shot, hung drawn and quartered before given a burial at sea?

Nah, it was a different ditty of the same name, but as 'Toploader' did it, a more apt title would have been "Day-aancin' eeen the mooooon-laaat"
never before have so many vowels been murdered in the title of one pop song!!

Nah, it was a different ditty of the same name,
Glad to hear that - would be a sad sad world if such an awful monstrosity had come from a pedigree origin!

Thin Lizzy one:
When I passed you in the doorway
You took me with a glance
I should have took that last bus home
But I asked you for a dance
Now we go steady to the pictures
I always get chocolate stains on my pants
My father he’s going crazy
Say’s I’m living in a trance
But I’m dancing in the moonlight
It’s caught me in it’s spotlight
It’s alright, alright
Dancing in the moonlight
On the long hot summer night
It’s three o’clock in the morning
And I’m on the streets again
I disobeyed another warning
I should have been in by ten
Now I won’t get out until sunday
I’ll have to say I stayed with friends
But it’s a habit worth forming
If it means to justify the end
Toploader version: (which was apparently originally done by Harvest King; don't remememember the band name, but their version was way better!!)
We get it on most every night
When that moon is big and bright
It’s a supernatural delight
Everybody’s dancing in the moonlight
Everybody here is out of sight
They don’t bark and they don’t bite
They keep things loose they keep it tight
Everybody’s dancing in the moonlight
Dancing in the moonlight
Everybody’s feeling warm and bright
It’s such a fine and natural sight
Everybody’s dancing in the moonlight
We like our fun and we never fight
You can’t dance and stay uptight
It’s a supernatural delight
Everybody was dancing in the moonlight
Dancing in the moonlight
Everybody’s feeling warm and bright
It’s such a fine and natural sight
Everybody’s dancing in the moonlight
We get it on most every night
And when that moon is big and bright
It’s a supernatural delight
Everybody’s dancing in the moonlight
Dancing in the moonlight
Everybody’s feeling warm and bright
It’s such a fine and natural sight
Everybody’s dancing in the moonlight
...so there you go :)

On the subject of which... my mate Phil was listening to Sigur Ros the other day - they're an Icelandic band who did the track the BBC are using to promote the current natural history series.
He was marvelling at the meaningful Icelandic lyrics:
Heysátan
Höfðum þau hallàró
En ég sló
Eg sló tún
Eg hef slegið fjandans nóg
En ég sló
Heysátan
Þá fer að fjúka út
Ut àmó.. (ég dró)
Heyvagn á massey ferguson
Þvàhann gaf undan
Og mér fótur rann... Andskotann
Eg varð undan
Og nú hvÃÂli hér
Með beyglað der
Og sáttur halla nú höfði hér
Then he read the English translation:
The stack of hay
Had them all calm
But I mowed
I mowed fields
I have mowed f*****g enough
But I moved
The stack of hay
Then begins to blow out the door
Out into the field (I dragged)
A wagon of hey on a Massey Ferguson
'Cause he gave in
And I slipped... f***
I was first
And now rest here
With a folded cap
And now loll my head here, content
Ah, poetry in motion.

It must be the effect of all those long dark days they have up there! :)

I quite liked the Toploader version, although there's a 10x better one made by a member of this Forum for his Music Coursework :D
