Post by: WishIhadaLandy on March 28, 2006, 10:47:56
What symbols (i.e. OS map symbols) indicate tracks with vehicular rights of way (i.e. byways, RUPP's, BOAT's etc.)

Just thought it ask as i dont really know, there are lots of different path symbols out there.

Please don't say i'm not the only one who doesn't know them...

It should be in the key on the 1:50000 OS maps but IIRC it's: _._._._._._._._ or something like that.

Bare in mind I live in Scotland where we don't have such things are RUPPs or BOATs so I could be wrong!  :D

Hi, please don't use these symbols as a difinitive answer to the question of where you can drive as they are not.

Use the GLASS Wayfinder project (Google it if your not sure) or even better the local councils list of roads (find the council's Rights Of Way officer).

Best wishes,

David

Try this www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk there is a section on map reading. But you will it has vehicle rights to be able to drive it. The only way to be sure is to contact the local right of way office.

The OP mentioned the GLASS Wayfinder.

way-finder.co.uk is NOT the GLASS wayfinder regardless of any other people's interpretation.

Can anyone register to use Wayfinder, or do you need to be a GLASS member ?

Click on www.wayfinderproject.co.uk and have a look around.
If you are a GLASS member or a TRF member then it's free. If you're a member of an affiliated club them a few accounts are free then they are around
£5 for the year.
