Title: Has anyone worked in France???
Post by: Edge on March 30, 2006, 18:12:59: Hi, Has anyone else worked or lived in France before?? just sent off an app for a gardener/maintenance/driver position in south of France. Comes with accommodation etc, but am wondering how much tax i'd have to pay on my salary?
Also is there any does and don'ts to working in France???

Does anyone work in france ? I thought they just protested a lot

not true, they just have a tendancy to run to the otherside of the channel before they make it.

It was a work experience placement through college - sorry, I can't help with practicalities. I did have the time of my live over there, though.

One thing I did find was that it is NOT TRUE that men kiss each other in greeting - my experience was always that it was a handshake. Women/men and two women either kiss on both cheeks (the custom is that this is repeated if one person is from Paris) or shake hands - I normally let the other person take the lead on this one!

As with anywhere, French individuals were great, and I was really well treated. Many people I was working with invited me to their homes for meals, as their culture is centred around the table. Even a simple meal really does consist of four or five courses.

I hope it all goes well and that you have a whale of a time over there, as well.

Post by: Edge on April 01, 2006, 08:46:38: Cheers :D . I know the roads out there are deserted compared to the UK, apparently thats due to same amount of cars...but spread over a much bigger area....AHHHHH-BLISS. Saying that, Scottish roads are fairly quiet too.
