Having just bought a 1976 88" is this tax exempt or not???

No, It needs to be built before 1-1-1973 to be tax exempt.

Agreed, the only way if the log book has the date of manufacture before the above, more the thing you may find on ex military ones rather than civilian ones

I think the log book (v5) shows the date of first reg?
The date that matters is the actual date of manufacture, some vehicles where stored for months before being sold so you can occasionally get away with it , proof can be via the manufacturer, owners club or by a letter from some registered motor historian type chappy, found the last one via a monkey bike site butapparently if they can prove the manufacture date you get your free tax

Yes just looked at my new log book, it says in section 10
Date of first registration, 09 01 1979 (DECL/D MANUF 1970)
and in sect 3 on the front it says
Was registered and/or used. Decleared manufactured was 1970
I think it must have been on the older books that did it then

As it was manufactured in 1970 it will be free tax as a historic vehicle, you still have to go to the post office and apply for it, but its free

sure theres a site somewhere that lets you type your chassis number in and it tells you make model and date manufactured...might be imagining it tho' :?

As it was manufactured in 1970 it will be free tax as a historic vehicle, you still have to go to the post office and apply for it, but its free
