I saw a Discovery 1 today and it had Lexus style rear lights, I am on a quest now to find some.
I wish I had my camera with me they really looked great.
Any ideas ?

Hi.
Keep us posted, I've been wondering about different rear lights for some time now. Were they LED? Can you describe what you mean by Lexus rear lights? Circular?
Cheers, Dan

Looked like rounded lamps (similar to defender) encased behind a clear cover. Lights were round and had chrome surrounds. Like on those boy racer corsas.
-
Hiya
They are available and I know where.................

Look under the freelander section tho ;)
-
Damian, they do front light conversions but not rear.
Be very interested myself if these units can be traced?
-
Nope, was not the bumper lights, was the main rear lights.
Looked a little like these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Peugeot-206-Lexus-Style-Rear-Lights_W0QQitemZ4627515132QQcategoryZ10406QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Except for the shape of course

Any chance you'll see this driver again, follow him next time
-
Speak to them, last time I asked they had pillar lights and bumper lights sorted for the Discovery.
-
Did they look a bit like these?

I've searched for ages on the web and can't find anyone that makes this type for a disco. I'd love to change mine though. I'd also like to change the headlamps to the 2005 style but looks like no one does a conversion like that for the discovery I.[/url]

No they were the correct shape. I suppose its possible they were made for the Austin Maestro and then adapted but thats just a guess.
As for the front, I have a set of TD5 headlights and indicators, going to get the hammer, chisel and angle griner out and fit them over the summer. Disco 1 headlamps are crap aint they.

How much modification do you think it'll take to fit the TD5 lights?
-
Well I am not talking about the 2003 on lights but to fit the older ones
You need to mount the adjusters as they are in a slightly different place, you also need to remove the small panel which sits in the way of the bulb holder on the TD5 indicator. In additiion some of the wing needs to be cut away as the TD5 indicator is rectangular and doesnt have a corner cut out like the disco one surround or the 300 indicator.
As for wiring, its the same but you need an extra 2 wires from the side light on the headlamp to the side light in the indicator.
Not a lot really.
-
Or you could fit 300 series headlights or the early td5 headlights without any choppin about :)
-
Yes, you can fit 300 headlamps and indicators to a disco 1 without much difficulty. You could fit TD5 headlamps with 300 indicators to a disco 1 without too much hastle either.
Dont do what I did though and buy a pair of Discovery 3 headlamps in the hope to bodge them on the front of a Disco 1 as it is physically impossible. They are absolutely gigantic I worked out you would need to remove the entire headlamp mounting system, move both battery trays, modify the wings grill and bonnet.
Now I have said that tho, some smartass will provide a picture of "one they did earlyer" I bet !
-
Mines a 1995 300Tdi and basically I would like the headlamps to look like this...
...if you're fitting early TD5 lights and the kit this picture was taken from can convert early TD5 to 2003 spec then it should be possible?
-
yeah its possible to have those td5 lights, there is a scam on ebay at the moment for an "ebook" with "detailed instructions" on how to do it. It does involve quite a few modifications with a grinder etc tho.
Having said that the ebook is a lot cheaper than a guy in Oldham way who offers it for about £1500 of work and your car for about 5 days. There was a thread I started somewhere in the Discovery area about it ;)
Ill see if I can find it

Ok this is the thread:

Or hassle Fingers Mclean, he did have a .zip at one stage with his pics from his installation of 2003 lights on a 300tdi
