Title: Hard Suspension
Post by: marjan on April 04, 2006, 19:44:32
OK Guys one for all you know it alls. I have a Samurai with a 2" shackle lift fitted but the ride is boneshaking hard due to the fact that the springs have flattened out. I can't afford a conversion to coils and I don't want to go the SPOA way.

So do I just get some heavy duty springs from KAP or do I go for 2" lift springs and put the standard shackles back on?.

Get some old engine oil, jack up the car, and pry the leaves apart with an old screwdriver or similar, lather the oil in between the leaves.
Do this on all the springs and see how it feels.
Usually makes a huge improvement.
Be aware, I fitted lifted spring packs can lead to hard suspension, as a spring with a deeper arch usually is a harder spring, so it holds the arch.
If you want to get really trick, strip the spring out, and dismantle it, and get some teflon sheet, cut into strips, and rebuild the pack with teflon in between each leaf

So do I need to refit some original shackles with the lifted springs then?

Nero161, lookat this site for SMJ.

Have a look at the 2" lift kit from procomp (£385), that's what I'm going to get for mine. Have bought a couple fo bits and pieces from them and have been really good.
