Title: Driving "doors off"
Post by: nomis on April 05, 2006, 10:37:39
is it legal?

I can't see why driving my samurai around without doors is breaking any laws, but i'm not sure.

I used to drive a beach buggy, no doors there!  8)

Anyone had any experiences with this? The sunny weather is getting to me  :D

It is legal, not too clever but legal all the same.

Mirrors will need to be fitted if they were orignally fitted to the vehicle, not unlike seatbelts and hazard warning lights.

I only know this because i intend to rebuild my lightweight and have no doors or windows and have the windscreen dropped (well till i get bored eating bugs and having em splatter on my face). Either way checked with local plod and they seemed happy enough with the doors being taken off.

But then i have a feeling it would depend upon the vehicle and age of said vehicle and all the kinds of sillyness.

Those EVIL sherpa vans. They should all be made illegal on the fact they are so horrible to drive!!

can be driven without
DOORS
SCREEN
REAR DOOR
ROOF
BONNET
as its based on a chassis then perfectly legal to remove them, ask any squaddy..;)
and depending on age can even be mot'd in that state

I used to drive my lightweight without the doors without any problems. Must admit, it felt a bit weird though. 8)  8)
