posted yesterday about a dying clutch,took it to another mechanic and ive now been informed its the gearbox. b*****ks need to know what kind of gearbox it is so i can try and find another one second hand its a 1996 300tdi need to know what kind off gearbox it is and is it in any other landrover so i can widen the search??????????please help

I think it will be an R380, that's what 300tdi defenders had. There's a guide to gearbox identification on Ashcroft's site (http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/category_5.html)

Does the noise go away when you put your foot on the clutch while still in motion? If so, it could be the clutch, if not then geabox. It could just be the clutch release bearing.
Why not take a trip over to Landrover Heaven (http://www.landroverheaven.com/) just north of Largs, for a third opinion.
He may also have a second hand R380 in stock if that's what you need. :wink:

TRYED LANDROVER HEAVEN NONE IN STOCK..CHEERS ANYWAY
