Realy bad news. I can see this going the same way now as foot and mouth with countryside being closed off
:(
-
Found a dead bird a couple of weeks ago outside the front of the house, I honestly thought it had flown into a power cable and broke its neck, didnt consider bird flu. I'll keep my eyes peeled for more as it was a crow and theyre hanging around in large flocks at the moment.
Redlinemike had best be careful, he lives in fife.

DEFRA on the page Avian influenza (bird flu): Impact on the countryside (http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/diseases/notifiable/disease/ai/rural/index.htm) states "In the event of an outbreak of Avian Influenza (AI) the countryside would not be closed down as it was during the outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in 2001"
They seem to have learnt a bit from the FMD fiasco.
I just hope that it doesn't get here, I like "my" swans, even if he is bad tempered when she is sitting on the nest.
Regards
Wolfie

Would it be worth giving DEFRA a call? if you just bined the body then no point but if its beeen burried then they may want a look at it

i got two birds a black bird and what looked like a parrot, never gave bird flu a thought as we have 3 cats,
DEBBIE

Came across this last month while at sea working in the caspian sea (12 cases in azerbaijan when i came on leave) It basically is passed on through the entrails and blood. to be sure though if you have to handle dead birds use latex gloves or bags on your hands, double bag the bird and dispose of all te gloves you use to handle the birdin the second bag as well.
Dont take any chances, it has already transfered to cats as well, so like me if you have out door cats and they bring birds in as a present! Be very careful

going to be lots of chicken on the reduced shelf at tescos now

That didn't stop some people. A true story from foot and mouth, a farmer found a dog walker in the middle of a field, when asked what they were doing, the replie was theres a foot path ban at the moment so i'm walking on the fields instead.

typical of ramblers.............even in the face of illness and devistation they still think they have the ultimate right to go where the hell they want!!!!! grrrrrrrrrr makes me so mad..........even had one spit on our disco while we were out on a legal lane.....and we had pulled over and stopped for him as well was not a happy bunny :x :x

Then people wonder where road rage comes from? Wonder if he would have complained if you and your passengers jumped out and peeeed on him  I would find it very difficult to control myself if someone did anything blatant against my 90  Nearest pile of dog mess would be force fed to whoever did the deed.
Thinking about it......perhaps that wouldnt be the wisest thing to do, but I can understand how irate you must of felt after he did that to your vehicle.
-
spent the next 3 hours seathing!!! now when i see rambelers out i am kinda waiting for a similar reaction coz some poor sod is gonna get all 9 moths of hormoans in one gob full!!!!!!
