Title: transfer box help
Post by: chuggaman on April 08, 2006, 17:42:38
to help my understanding of these vehicles may i ask

can the transfer box be removed with the gearbox in place.???

i ask this as i have just dropped the 2 boxes together and changed the clutch and arm.

the rear output shaft of the t/box has play and a type of unhealthy grinding feel at its full movement aswell as leaking from the seal..,presuming this is a sign of impending doom and a necessary change..is the above .....possible/easier or harder

i have also noticed that the front diff pinion bearing is on its way out too  #-o

Yes, you may have noticed that of the 2 gearbox to chassis mountings, one is bolted to the T-Box.  Remove that and separate the 2 boxes, you can then lift the T-box away leaving the gearbox and engine firmly attached.
