Got made redundant yesterday. The yard I worked from was in profit and had full order books, but the owners decided to move production to its other two UK plants using cheap (mostly foreign) labour, making about 250 men redundant. I've got another job lined up but a lot of the other guys won't be so lucky, but thats progress I suppose...
On the other hand, my redundancy money gets into the bank next week and there are some VERY nice 90s and a couple of hybrids on ebay. I may not be able to control myself over an entire week...

Might not happen, when Bardon took over CAMAS a lot at my dads quarry expected to be layed off, but instead they just made them destroy their wagons by forcing them to paint all the wagons blue and white.

It looks like you do my dream job.
I so want just a little go in an arctic lorry and one day want to drive them for a living.
I will stick to being a postie for now and finishing at really early times!

There seems to be a lot of it about.. I've just been made redundant from Tesco... TESCO ! 8 years with them and they decide to close our depot.. one of the most profibable in the country.. no room for expansion they said...650 down the road including 105 drivers... of which I was one...
Still... I get more time with the kids !
-
Good luck guys

Sorry to hear of the redundancy :( But at least with a HGV or PSV you wont be out of work for long, its an investment for life
-
Stuff working for them
Try working for yourself
I went selfemployed 13 years ago as a driver in the winter then in the sumer as a gardener , set up my own business {Duncan,s garden services}
Two years ago we moved from Northamptom to the Isle of Skye to run a b&b
Best thing we ever done

Redundancy can open up some new doors sometimes. I was made redundant and then got a job as an engineers assistant at a building maintenance company. 18 months later they put me through my Corgi gas exams (at age 42) and now I'm a fully qualified domestic & commercial gas fitter.

Good Luck

sorry to hear about your redundancy, good luck finding a new job.
The people I work for have made quite a few people redundant recently, received a letter to say my job was considered vital to the company as our service is entirely reliant upon the IT system.
The way things are going though I don’t hold out much hope of been there much longer.
Seems as if we will be moving our service to our parent company. Shame though there a good lot to work for, even let me take two days a week to go to Uni.

it's an invasion of pino's and poles!i work for a large very well known hgv company.the gaffers will not sort out pay rises, bonus or even first refusal on overtime.they can bring the pino's and poles in cheaper.it doesn't matter that they can't do the job right first time, hey it's cheap!
glad you got another job, stick to driving coz the spanner is a dying trade!
-
CORRECT!!!!!!! balls to em all
-
poles...erm I agree, my ex gaffer took 3 on, 1 spoke english, the other 2 not a word, they hadnt even been in a RHD vehicle ...needless to say we all stayed well clear while they tried to reverse!!
lot of places we deliver to have taken on poles..twice the work for half the pay...good business sense, bad for anyone that complains!!
-
I've been made redundant twice, each time it turned out to be a blessing in disguise as I moved on to better things both times.
So hope all goes well with the new job, and don't let the b*****ds get you down.
A little quote from my diary "If you would know what the Lord God thinks of money, you have only to look at those to whom he gives it"
(Redundancy money excluded!)
-
yep, ive been there as well, but as luck would have it it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
i hope things work out for you
