Hi all
I was picking up a series 3 from uxbridge for my brother in law, and on the M40, the gearbox overheated, spewed the fliud out.
My kickdown cable doesn't move now, had to disconnect it to get home. - SLOWLY
Am i right in thinking the gearbox is fubar and needs either a rebuild or a replacement? (was rebuilt about 18months ago and this is the first time I have towed a trailer with a car on the back??)
Anyone no of or has an autobox for sale that would fit?
Is it worth changing to manual, if so what is involved, and would that be cheaper than getting an auto box from a scrappy?
Anyone shed any light on what may have happened?
H E L P...........

To go manual (if you can cope I think it's better on a TDi) you need a pedal box from a manual, these should bolt in/out, the centre console and rubber panel, flywheel, pilot bearing, clutch kit, gearbox obviously (not your T-Box though, that's the same) clutch slave and related pipework. Short out the sterter inhibiter (or fit a cutout switch for security).
Exhaust may be differnt but I'm not sure, crossmemeber should be the same.

My auto box oil overheating light came on, on Wednseday whilst towing my really light caravan (MGW 1100kg)
I found it to be the temp switch had water in it but since then I have now got a new oil leek but it is engine oil and when I checked the auto box oil level when I arrived at the campsite it didnt show on the dip stick, I put more oil in, Rac guy put even more in and now it always shows about an inch over the max mark when the RAC guy topped it up to the max line and I even saw it on the max mark.
