anyone see the crash test of the disco vs the espace...
nice to see the airbags stay put on the lr!
-
Yea - just seen the crash, but I have to ask, is it really a fair test pitching a vehicle designed mid 90's against a new style MPV, i know crash zone designs have come along way and its almost a dead cert that a newer car will fair better!
-
that may be so but that model disco is in abundance on the roads, and i guess they picked a common one, if its a few years old shouldnt get away from the fact that its not the bastion of safety anymore.

Just wait for the Anti's to jump on the Bandwagon.
-
even though i doubt fifth gear's aim was to discredit the 4x4 in general, rathe pointing out the outcome.
besides the anti's aim is to discredit their effect on the environment and messing up the countryside rather than saving a person's life (which i think is a more important aspect.)

next week they will be having the G4 challenge on :D
-
its what sky+ was made for
-
on their web site it said that due to a technical error the air bags didnt go off but they think they would have done in real life so maybe the out come for the dummy driver would have been different too so possibly it could be just as safe as the espace!!!

i saw that and they said there was a TWIST in it ?? it lookerd like someone had passed out in the back ????
Renault had to win that crash test they are Just years ahead of Land Rovers idea if " Putting in big girders" to stop a impact
Im amaized that the renault driver could have walked away, did you see the dummies legs in the Disco :( it wasnt a pretty site :(
at least all teh Dizzy Women will be selling their " NEVER BEEN OFFROAD" Discos now for us to snap up cheaply :)

i dont think the fact that it should have gone off, the fact is that it didnt on telly, thats what makes people take notice

Even tho I drive a zook, Id still want to be in the ladder chassis rangie 4x4 in a real world smash.
low speed bump(no contest) higher speed bump, Id like to see more results head on etc.
OK, in a pre-determined crash against a people carrier, it came out worst, Id be pretty sure it'd ride over/thru a smaller car.
They make tv worth watching dont they, if the rangie had hit the mpv head on and demolished it, there would have been no surprise factor would there.
Real world, rangie versus hatchback, Id vote rangie
Rangie versus modern car in a crash against atruck or similar, Id vote rangie.
Its like statistics, you can get em to prove anything(85 % of people already know that)

is it really a fair test pitching a vehicle designed mid 90's against a new style MPV
mid 90's is optimistic for discovery chassis design, the basic chassis design dates from the rrc of the eairly 70's
Crash testing is flawed in that every crash is unique, one crash test on tv used a landrover and a typical modern saloon/hatch driven at about 30 mph IIRC into a standing dummy in the middle of the road. The result, becasue of how the dummy lent over the lr bonnet the chances are it would have survived, compared to the car which flicked the dummy up, causing sevire head damage as it landed.
Morral of the story, your safety is never garrantied (thats why third party insurance is manditory).
