Filled the rangie up this morning to go on a run - £49.00 to neck it and off me and the boss went
Up Loch Eck side to the Rest and be Thankfull then over to Inverary, up Loch Awe and then lunch at Tyndrum - onwards to Ballachulish via the Connel Bridge then through Glencoe back to Inverary via Tyndrum and Dalmally
A lot of you (most, probably) won't know where I am wittering on about but my point is the sun was shining, the roads were quiet and the V8 was running like a dream
Dearer road tax ? - double it if you want
Dearer petrol ? - bring it on, I really don't care
There is no price I wouldn't pay to be in the motor I WANT TO DRIVE amongst the finest scenery anywhere in the world ( bit biased perhaps !) on a nice sunny day
Fair cheered me and the missus up anyway !
199 mile round trip and best of all still got quarter of a tank to run about with - best £49 I've spent for a while
Here's a few photos taken on the way - maybe they will warm the cockles of someone elses heart too ! :D
-
And here's one of my wee rangie back home after a wash
-
I wonder if you know just how lucky you are to be up there.... that is some stunning scenery..... any more pics ?
-
A great looking castle, is it open to the public?
-
I suppose the castle is open to the public if you can get to it ....................................... It's on an island !
Here's a couple more pics Graham -
-
You didn't do the round trip from Inverary down the side of Loch Fyne to Otterferry and across to Tighnabraich then? That's a nice run on a day like today. :D
-
In Tighnabruich a couple of weeks ago Budgie so thought I would head in opposite direction today - were supposed to be going to Oban but never quite got there
-
To my eternal shame I've never been across the border  ... but that's going to change now... summer hols in bonnie Scotland this year I think... views to die for....
-
thats a very beautifull area you live in .gonna have to come up your way soon and soak it up for myself
-
You wouldn't regret it Graham - if you would like any of these pics sent to you in high resolution just pm me your email addy
-
You wheren't far off at Connel.
Got a friend who lives in Banderloch on the North side of the bridge, not been down that way in a while. :-k
-
I envy you your drive. I have lived in Scotland on and off over the years and the scenery really does take some beating.
One of my favourites was down Glen Sheil, with the Five Sisters of Kintail on your right, Eileen Donan Castle at the bottom and a distant view of Skye. I've done it on a cold, crisp morning with the snow down to sea level, perfect blue skies and hardly another car on the road. Takes some beating.
I thought I had some photos, but can't find the ones I wanted, so an evening view from Loch Duich towards Skye might whet someones appetite :)
Cheers
Keith

Passed through Benderloch today Budgie - thought about heading for Fort William but ran out of time - still, there's always next weekend ! :D
Bring a tent Colin.................plenty of room in the back garden
-
Hi Budgie,
Where are you in the Outer Hebrides? I spent 2 years on Benbecula in my RAF days and managed to tramp over just about every hill in North and South Uist. Loved the place and the relaxed pace of life.
Cheers
Keith

No photos of the mainland but I've got plenty of the Western Isles on my site Graham & Colin, just click on my Budgie Banner.
Keith, love the sky in that photo. =D>
Kenny, another few hours and you could be on the ferry to Harris!! :D
-
I'm 10 miles east of Stornoway Keith, not had a good look around the Uists & Benny yet, something always comes up when we've planned a trip down there.
-
That's it.... The tent comes out.. primus will be primed.. the kids will love it and Graham's great Scottish roadtrip is now being planned.... 8) ... guess I'de better get the maps in......
-
Nice pic Keith
I used to do a fair bit of work in my forestry days along the edges of Loch Shiel - mainly around Scamodale and Glen Hurich and some on the other side of the loch on the Moidart peninsula around Acharacle (try saying that with a drink in you !) :D

Fantastic pitures, I remember the trips over from Islay to Inverary with the school, holidays over to Glasgow great trips, I must get back home some time soon, its been to long
-
Go on Murph............................you know you want to !
Are you from Islay youself then ? - just that my mate's wife is from Islay and it would be spooky if you knew her..........
-
Just to tempt you south then Budgie. Mind you you don't often get conditions like the second two piccies
Notice the obligatory collie. We used to do about 12 miles, he used to do about 60, not counting the extra up and down involved.
Cheers

Now those are great shots. I love the clear blue water, the white sands, but the bloody cold water was a real turn off!!
Once spent two weeks camping on Harris, got the ferry from Loch Maddy to Tarbert. Late May, long days, no midges and mountains that very few people bothered going up. A real wilderness experience.
The Outer Hebrides are a real, still largely undiscovered gem and I hope they stay that way for a while. Just think, if the weather was more reliable, you'd be up to you necks in tourists! :P
Cheers

HMMMM, think I might be coming your way with the new BWSOW sometime. Always liked Scotland, especially on days like that :D
-
200 miles on 3/4 of a tank, that's good going too, is it manual or auto?

It's auto but I was in relaxed cruising mode - don't expect I broke the speed limit all day :D

Her maiden name is Rhona Johnstone and she is late thirties and would of left Islay about 15 or so years ago - she has a big sis who still lives there but I can't remember her name at the mo

Looks wonderful up there, I'll shamefully admit that the furthest I've been over border is Stranraer & PortPatrick (on the west coast) & Lamberton (on the east)
We keep meaning to have a trip up, but never seem to get round to it
-
My thoughts exactly on the fuel pricing, not arsed, just love to drive...
Its ben a whiel since i have been out the West Coast but will be revisiting a few haunts this coming summer, Ranoch Moor, Skye, Fort William, Lochgilphead etc...
cant wait.....

Know what you mean, there are still loads of places I haven't managed to get to - I'm going to make more of an effort to do some more sight seeing up here, and get to more steam fairs as well - only managed Pickering for last 6 years and really want to get to Great Dorset
One life and all that...............................

And I've always wanted to go to south Wales - wife's family came from there a few generations ago (maiden name Williams)

Can't say I knew her, but if my memory serves me right there used to be a Johnstone family from Port Ellen, Tommy and Alec seem to ring bells may not be connected.
I left about 20 years ago, I'm from the Mc Callman family who were related to some Johnstone's , cousins I think.
Small world

Is it just me, but the Castle at the beginning looks like where the MC Cloud clan live in Highlander, sorry just happen to watch it last night, but hell thats some lovely looking places, never been to Scotland, much get me passport out.

Don't think it will be this one Lofty - it doesn't have a roof :D
