Can Aluminium be Polished or Chrome plated. :?:
-
It can certainly be polished, but there are specific polishing compounds to do so.
We have had chrome plated aluminium parts at work too (Mini interior door handles, etc) and some seem more successful than others. I guess it is down to the process used.

Here's an example of polished aluminum -

i polished the frame of my fireblade ,it looked good but high maintanance .oxidises quite quick ,and goes dull if you laquer it  polishing kits can be bought from machine mart for about 20 quid

yep you can polish ali but its bloody hard work all polish lines need to be in the same direction or they just become scratches. if you get in touch with your local automotive paint supplier they will be able to give you the name of the laquer to spray it with once polished so it stays shiny.
i used to be an ali welder and its problems is that 4 hours after cleaning or polishing the surface reoxidises loosing its look.
hope thi helps
