Title: Steering noise?
Post by: marjan on April 28, 2006, 17:14:13
I"ve got a strange groaning noise on the steering on my Samurai which sounds like the steering shaft is binding somewhere. Has anyone come across this before and is there a way of lubricating the shaft other than removing it completely.

It's MOT time next week and I'm worried that it may cause it to fail.

Cheers,

Mark.

Just in case any of you come across this problem, I discovered what it was today. I removed the steering wheel and lower link shaft and then tried to remove the steering shaft which eventually came out by way of a hammer and a steel rod!.

The shaft was rusted to hell probably due to an ingress of water from off roading. After a quick rub down and the application of plenty of grease the steering is now quiet and a lot smoother.

Hi there, thanks for finding the solution. I have the same problem but it does no more than annoy :?  as mine is not registered for the road. Best of luck with the MOT
