Title: switch for electric fans.
Post by: mark.yellow.series.3 on April 30, 2006, 11:18:12
on my RR V8 engine there is a temp switch for the warning light (i think) and a sender unit for the temp gauge. but does anyone know of a switch suitable for controlling electric fans that could be screwed into the inlet maniflod? i guess it would have to cut in at about 95degrees c.

Sorry Mark but youve lost me there, i cant work out any correlation between inlet manifold temp and engine temperature...or is it just me. Why not simply have a dash mounted switch and trigger your fans via a 40 amp relay?

I use one of these on the hybrid, works a treat, put the sensor bulb in the pipe and sealed the capiliary tube with some hylomar, and no leaks at all

the other temp switches and sender are mounted on the inlet manifold, so if the engine temp is measured here then the fan control could be too (i think).
the switch would be easer and i think i will go with that until i can buy the scorpian one.

hello mate,
dont wast your time and money on the kenlow set up,never can get the phile that fits under the hose to stop leaking. try demon tweeks and look for the revotec fan controler its the muts nuts. fits in the top hose,
just cut a three inch section from the top hose and slot the controler in, two hose clips job done.then just the wiring,i have this set up on my tomcat, rad in the rear works a treat. :D  :D

I'm almost certain you'll get surface sensors for under £3 from :

RS
Rapid Electronics
and Farnell
And oddly enough they are the same ranges as the Scorpion ones.

RS :
One Hobbit seems to be using, +50 to +300 RS part 250-6077 @ £4.08 + vat

Surface mount ones are from £1.85 to £2.95 for the all singing all dancing ones. If you have an RS cat look on P 1352 in volume 1 or under thermal switches & industrial thermostats at http://www.rswww.com

IF need be I can pick one up if you cant provide your local trade counter proof of business (headed paper, business card etc)

Does anyone know the size of the radiator pipes on a 300tdi please?
I've had a look at one of these revotec jobbies and i like the sound of it. i need to know what size to order though, trying to save time by not taking the pipes off to measure.
cheers in advance guys
