why do most people on the forum have an obsession with big tyres
i think it takes the chalange out of off roading if you have the ultimate tyre that goes anywhere
you tend to loose the skill in driving
my beach buggy was 2wd and would go the same places that a 4x4 could with a little perswasion with stanard tyres
also you dont break your drive train so readely
(sorry about spelling)

Have standerd tyres on my rr and not really had any problems with them. But have pulled another rr out of the mud at sibbertoft and he had mud tyres on. :D

Big tall tyres will help lift the diffs higher off the ground and allow you to travel down deeper ruts - until the ruts get even deeper
-
standard size but better tread pattern, thats what you want.

I have got 7.50x16's on my SWB, does that count?
-
Standard Tyres . . . . . Bah Humbug . . . . . jack it up and get big wheels in it

im with tyke  but hey we all have a diffrent opinon, like u said i have seen people go places with small/standard tyres

The whole point of lifting a vehicle is to fit bigger tyres  or else your just wasting money/time on doin a job that doesnt need doin. Bigger tyres give more ground clearance which in turn saves...or helps save....getting stuck/damage.

Big tyres, since I belted my diff on Derbyshire rocks. Just done the same route without horrible expensive banging/scraping noises from underneath 8)

What absolute nonsense - no 2wd can go the same places as a 4x4,
Unless the 4x4 is being driven by a novice or numscull,Please keep it real!!!
dont give a toss how much perswasion? you gave it ,it just not feasable,

I have big tyres for mud/bad weather but these really sap the power of the car and it handles pretty scarily now they have softened up so I use ATs on road and gentle lanes that are standard height but a little wider.
I don't agree that a lifted car on standard tyres is pointless at all, it still improves approach, departure and breakover. the only thing to lift a diff is big tyres so it depends what you are driving on. If it deep ruts or jacked rocks you need big tyres, if it's flat soft ground, up and down gradients then it's not so important as the high C of G is a handicap.
